This postcard features a full-size replica of a Korean Turtle Ship (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_sh…), known in Korean as a Geobukseon (거북선). This particular replica is located at Okpo Battle Victory Memorial Park (english.visitkorea.or.kr/svc/whereToGo/…) in Geoje.
The Geobukseon was a type of large, covered warship used by the Royal Korean Navy during the Joseon Dynasty, most famously by Admiral Yi Sun-sin (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yi_Sun-sin) to defeat Japanese naval forces during the Imjin War (1592-1598).
The ships were innovative "sea tanks" designed with a covered deck (sometimes claimed to be iron-plated, though this is debated by historians) to protect the crew from arrow and musket fire.
Key features included a fierce dragon-shaped figurehead at the bow that could emit smoke and fire cannons, and upward-pointing iron spikes on the roof to prevent enemy ships from boarding.
