I’m not a religious person at all, but I’m gonna say the fuck out of Merry Christmas. As much as the western world wants to legislate the joy and the spirit out of Christmas and turn it into a pathetic consumerist shell of what it once was, (because while they don’t want us feeling joy or a sense of community, they *do* still want us spending) I think it’s everyone else’s duty to resist that. If you’re gonna shun people for saying merry Christmas, take down all the decor. Don’t run any sales. No music. It’s strange to me that it was the people celebrating Christmas that had to change from Merry Christmas to happy holidays to accommodate everyone else, despite our stated and protected freedom of religion. Why is that? “Not everyone celebrates Christmas” ok, and? Personally, I’d be thrilled if someone said “happy Hanukkah” to me, even though I don’t celebrate Hanukkah. Hit me with a “joyous Kwanzaa” and my fuckin face will light up with a smile. Cheers bro, I’ll drink to that. If anyone hears “merry Christmas” and feels attacked, antagonized, or otherwise slighted, I think that’s on them. Because I only ever mean it in the best possible way. Everyone deserves to celebrate the season with their whole ass the way *they* feel is best, so the words themselves don’t matter as much as the kindness we’re supposed to feel in our hearts at least once a year. But you should still get to say what you want. That brings us all closer. So Merry Christmas (Eve), y’all. ❤️
