@olieolie @jsmolenski @FreeStateKaren @KFILE Possibly, but if the additional qualifications were challenged in court they'd likely be found unconstitutional for the same reason state term limits on federal offices were. The Supreme Court has said new qualifications can't be added without amending the US Constitution.

@jsmolenski @FreeStateKaren @KFILE Kristof was running for governor, a state office. US senator is a federal office, so the requirements are set in the US Constitution and are the same for every state.

@FreeStateKaren @KFILE This happens to Nicholas Kristof in Oregon and it was a state constitutional issue, not a federal one. If Georgia has a similar law controlling ballot access, Walker should never have been able to run.

@LhasaCM @MrTinDC @infinitebuffalo @thisisbossi @gwh I guess the problem I was remembering is that to see all of someone's followers and followings you have to go to their server, and then when you click on one of those people to follow them it won't work. But I don't think the app really solves that either.

Interesting: Back in '92 then-Ward 1 councilmember Frank Smith introduced a bill to allow non-citizen legal residents vote in D.C. elections. The council recently passed a bill to that effect (and to let undocumented residents vote), but I didn't know the idea went that far back.

@jesserbnwtz I'm on mastodon.social, but I think other big ones are probably similar. And I don't know that being on a big one is better. It just sounds like maybe you hit on a bad one where whoever's running it may be overwhelmed or something.

This is true, but I think it was harder for nonprofit things like Wikipedia to get started by the time Twitter came along, and it's even harder nowadays. Everything has to be about extracting as much profit as possible.

@jesserbnwtz It could be, depending on what the server is and what you're looking for. I don't have any experience with restricted servers like that though.
