Lovely reading friends, brace yourselves. In 24hrs I started and finished EVERYTHING WAS BEAUTIFUL AND NOTHING HURT, and hand on heart it's one of the most powerful novels I've ever read. It is EXQUISITE. I'm almost too afraid to tell you about it, for fear of not doing it justice. But I'll try. This is the story of Travis Smith, a very ordinary young man, living with his cat in a very ordinary English town ... but Travis is actually far from ordinary. He is, in fact, Death in the modern world, and his job is to bring comfort to the dying, and help escort them on their final journey. Travis (understandably) keeps himself to himself. That is until he meets Dalia, a young single midwife (perfect career choice), and her boisterous 8 year-old daughter Layla. Travis (being Travis) always knows exactly what's ahead, but now, for the first time, he's beginning to see the joy in being alive. Now I want you to trust me (and more importantly trust Ben Reeves' incredible writing) because you can't summarise this book in a few sentences. It's far too profound and unique and extraordinary for a quick description. So I'll explain another way: The writing is incredible. It's the kind of writing that reminds you why you love reading. The story is unique. I've never read a novel like this. I was utterly transfixed. The rest of my life lay abandoned. The cover is not lying, it will break your heart, but your heart needs to be broken (trust me) because *this book will change your life* and I guarantee it will completely alter the way you view the world. And once you've read it, you will want everyone in your life to read it too. I talk a lot about how important pre-orders are to authors, and this is even more relevant for a debut author. It's a big ask to risk your money and reading-time on someone you don't know BUT (trust me again) this book is so incredibly special and somewhere between the first page and the last, you will (like Travis) discover the joy of being alive.
