@keeptransitpub

The Conservative Government wants private multinationals running transit across Ontario. We say Keep Transit Public. (A campaign by @atu_canada.)

“Unions have long supported @AndreaHorwath for her opposition to privatization... We fully expect her to uphold this principled stance–and protect public services and the good union jobs that sustain them.”-OFL President @waltonmom More: ow.ly/76KK50Rmzcw #KeepTransitPublic

In 2022, @AndreaHorwath, @CraigCassar and Esther Pauls committed to keeping LRT Operations with HSR on @ATU107's Election Survey. Today they all broke that commitment and trust with ATU and organized labour. Their votes made the difference in contracting out ATU jobs.

Disappointing decision made today by city council to give over 150 union jobs to private control.

It appears that the HDLC adopted boycott of a private operator for Hamilton LRT will be in effect for a decade. Councillors and the Mayor contracted out @ATU107 jobs to an unknown operator. Shameful display of wayward trusteeship over tax dollars! #HSRnotLRT @keeptransitpub

Taxpayers in #HamOnt will be paying the operator of the LRT. The City of Hamilton has the @hsr that has operated busses and light rail in the city for over 125 years and who the public wants to operate LRT. Today, Hamilton Council decided to pay an unknown corporation to do it.

Final vote to the amended motion. Operating model 2, in five years staff "begins the process of preparing" to transition in 10 years to Operating model 4. Thank you to the 6 councils who voted against this motion and support real public transit.

YES Councillor Hwang, if we go with Option 2 we are giving up all control over LRT. Option 4 we will have operations in our control.

Public service jobs shouldn't be contracted out either way, doesn't matter what the poverty rate is. But this council has approved a ten-year housing and homelessness action plan. How does a privately operated LRT support this plan?

Yes. Waterloo's is regionally owned, Hamilton's LRT will be owned by Metrolinx. Another major difference is the cities themselves, Hamilton has a significantly higher poverty rate than Waterloo. Why would we contract this work out when we could guarantee good jobs if HSR runs it?

Staff presentation appears to have added Waterloo ION consultant's "lessons learned" (pro P3) presentation to theirs. Michael Murray will be presenting at the end. Why is the city prioritizing a private consultant in this decision making? How much time for questions will he get?
