.@virginmedia YET ANOTHER outage in my area. 3 1/2 hours of lost work. Im a home worker Virgin. This is unacceptable. Also 2 hours of streaming, so lost revenue there too. @elonmusk does this happen with Star Link? May be switching VERY soon...

But it's not that simple because council tax is paid from post-tax income. Typically, someone living in a bigger house has already paid more tax than someone living in a smaller house (a growing share, at 40%). Think about it like this. Couple A have a combined income of £70k and live in a two-bed house - they pay £2000 a year in council tax. Couple B have the same income but live in a three-bed semi. They pay £2500 a year in council tax. Two couples, same income, same council, same services, but one couple pays 25% more than the other. Couple A likely has a higher disposable income due to lower mortgage repayments, so should they pay more? The more I think about it, the more it gives me a headache.

@keithapearson @robprogressive Relatively simple the idea is that the more expensive the home the assumption is greater disposable income. Hence CT banding, it’s part of a responsibility to society, maybe even part of the Social Charter albeit that is a government construct

Council Tax is one of the strangest taxes in Britain. Two neighbours can live in homes worth millions And pay almost the same as someone in a property worth a fraction of that How is that logical?

@keithapearson A lad in one of my classes this week asked what had happened to my belief that we could win the whole thing. I told him that painful memories of what had happened each time I’d allowed myself to believe we could do it before, had taken its toll.
