Coaches, hang in there and hold strong when your students will not embrace the process. Explain with scientific support of the learning phase. If they won’t embrace it, let them go. It’s not you, it’s them at that point.
For amateurs with a 10 index:
What percent of their tee shots with driver are over 300 yards (total yards)?
Give your answer to one decimal of precision (e.g. 10.7%).
Curious how many guesses before we get a correct one.
The deeper I dig into coaching performance (golf, specifically), I feel that it is difficult for the player (customer) to find and assemble the holistic approach that is most effective and efficient. Any coaches out there who understand and want to collaborate, DM me.
To the “my swing doesn’t feel the same as it did yesterday” crowd. Your body feels different each day. Not sure why your swing wouldn’t either. Stop prioritizing feel and start prioritizing ball flight.
Here’s something cool to remember, if you move the club through the impact area like your favorite player, you’ll produce the same ball flight as your favorite player 🤯
All too often golfers fall into the trap of thinking there’s always something to work on. At some point you need to go play golf and let your experiences on the course shape your swing as well ✌️
If an instructor tells you what something should “feel” like, it is merely them relaying their own internal experiences. It is likely it won’t apply to you.
I feel like once you’ve played this game for long enough, you start to realize how exhausting it is to react emotionally to good or bad golf shots. So much more productive to just move on to the next one and give it everything you’ve got.
Player: “I don’t care what shot shape I hit off the tee I just want to be consistent.”
Coach: “Until you decide what you want the face and the path to do every time, you’ll never be consistent.”
You have to decide what you want the ball to do on EVERY swing you make.
