Things like real-time eligibility, accurate cost estimation, and insurance verification that patients and providers can actually rely on. This is what patients interact with directly, before any clinical care happens at all.

You can deliver the best care you want, but if that patient gets a surprise bill, that will cloud their entire experience. This is why the factor that determines which provider groups succeed over the next decade lies in the financial layer.

Clinical care is always the topic of conversation when it comes to needed healthcare improvements. That’s a noble problem to solve, but it doesn’t solve the real upstream issue. The issue of why people get upset when they visit the doctors to begin with.

This is the most effective cost-reduction lever in healthcare. Making preventive care financially predictable.

- That could be a $40 therapy copay someone avoided for months - Or a $300 MRI that would’ve caught cancer while it was treatable - The primary care appointment delayed until a manageable condition became expensive

The healthcare industry's stated goal is to reduce the cost of care. Most investment in healthcare tech goes toward the highest-acuity, highest-dollar cases. That's logical if you're optimizing for claim volume. It misses the highest-leverage problem entirely.

In another recent BS experience, I switched banks in January. I applied to change accounts where I receive insurance payment. While this could be a quick process as it is with most companies, I still have not had a team verify my new account info. It’s been four months.

I ask $MRK CEO about this. He says they have increased manufacturing capacity but will still only be able to supply 60-65% of what market needs. Said MRK wouldn’t jack up the price bc it’s sole supplier (ie Shkreli) but said there’s a market failure for complex, off-patent drugs

Today I discovered an unfortunate consequence of GDPR: once someone hacks into your account, they can request--and potentially access--all of your data. Whoever hacked into my @spotify account got all of my streaming, song, etc. history simply by requesting it. 😱
