TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is very calm, and tropical storm formation is not expected for at least the next seven days. This is very unusual in that the climatological peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is just days away, on September 10. This marks the day with the highest historical probability of finding a tropical cyclone in the Atlantic basin.

Aug. 30: We are keeping watch of a tropical wave that will move off the coast of Africa on Sunday. Some slow development of this system is possible while it moves across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic next week, and it currently has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone through next Saturday. You can find the latest tropical weather information at hurricanes.gov.
