You will see from this chart that the 7-cedi kenkey (in blue) entered the market in June 2024. However, the 5-cedi kenkey (in yellow) has dominated since March 2024. This is the most stable price we've seen since we begun collecting data. @ayariga_mahama

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗥𝗔 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗫 **************** This is one idea I've been working but shelved since becoming a 'govament worker'😃. The basic idea is to construct some sort of practical hedonic index of the best places to live in Accra based on multi-factor ranking. It will use the criteria people most commonly care about such as schools (catchments), day-to-day amenities/shops, safety (recorded-crime patterns), transport/commute, and value for money, among others. Stratified surveys will be carried out with dimensions and indicators scored on a Likert scale and translated into a single composite City Liveability Index (0–100).

@CallmeAlfredo The 5-cedi G kenkey is up from 6.41 cedis, so up 18.88%. But, the weighted increase for all price points year-on-year for the third quarter was roughly 11.17%, surprisingly right in line with the GSS' food inflation for that period.

@kenkeyindex Nice! What does the comparison to last year show? I’m curious if the decline in maize prices is reflected somehow.

By now, we all know that declining inflation does not mean declining price levels on average. However, when headline inflation is as low as 5.4%, it suggests that some of the 307 items in the CPI basket may be experiencing price declines. In December 2025, the items in the chart below represent the top 20 items that recorded price declines compared to December 2024. Garden eggs, kontomire, fried fish, pawpaw, cabbage, fresh tomatoes, and fresh okro all saw price declines of more than 30% compared to December 2024. Price declines in everyday food items like these certainly bring relief to households!
