@Kenedhloger this will sound dumb but how does an older extinct language develop a word for a modern concept like recycling?

La patrie bretonne organisée en état souverain retrouverait son aire d'influence naturelle, bien au delà de ses frontières actuelles. L'État breton contrôlerait à nouveau stratégiquement la Manche (Mor Breizh).

@CllrDickCole Somebody please tell them that “Cornwall White Paper” is “Paper Gwynn Kernow” not “Kernow Gwynn Paper”

At Cornwall Council today, I challenged one and all to unite around a more ambitious devolution demand than contained in the White Paper document presented to the Council's ruling Cabinet. For more information, see: mebyonkernow.org/news/mk-commen…

2 monster pallets in today for @haycinemabooks ' Hay Festival stock. Not booked-in (grr...) but nice to be in the sunshine for a bit (but it's tougher hand-balling these days...) 1 box caught my eye, briefly went into (my pretty poor) Welsh mode but no! @kernowlingo #Cornish

Kala Me Lowen! May Day in Cornish is Kala Me, so to say Happy May Day we say “Kala Me Lowen!” The Obby Oss festival in Padstow is said to have ancient origins, and the word “hobbihors” is mentioned in the 1504 Cornish language drama Bewnans Meriasek.

@ChrisWoodPZ @stealurspoons @YesCornwall @CornwallCouncil People don’t visit towns that are the same as any other. Cultural tourists like difference, something that’s interesting and they don’t get at home. Seeing the Cornish language in Cornwall is just one part of it, but it contributes to making Cornwall a distinctive destination.

@ChrisWoodPZ @YesCornwall @CornwallCouncil You’re a bit behind the times Chris, it was dead a hundred years ago. Now there are hundreds of fluent speakers and thousands of learners, a number that is growing, and we are taxpayers too. Cornish has benefits for business, education, tourism, culture and heritage

@YesCornwall @CornwallCouncil Nothing against people learning the language for a hobby but it’s a dead language. Wishing it otherwise won’t change anything. Having everything translated into Cornish is an incredible waste of valuable taxpayers money that could be spent far better elsewhere.

Cornish has collective nouns, which can be made singular by adding -en, and made plural by adding -ennow Gwedh = trees Gwedhen = a tree Gwedhennow = some trees Other examples are ster ‘stars’, steren ‘a star’, ergh ‘snow’, erghen ‘snowflake’, gwenen ‘bees’, gwenenen ‘a bee’
Ryan Rhodes ⚙️🧠@langofmind

In many languages, the plural is marked and the singular is unmarked even though are more plural things than singular things in the world. curious
