Arguably one of the worst books to be selected by America's highschools; to enshrine as a "must read" in various English classes. It did not age well past its era, nor its East Coast audience. The problems and people are all tedious. The equivalent of modern Martha's Vineyard folk having a soap opera episode. About which almost no middle class kid can care. To say nothing of poor kids. I hate this book. It deserves to be de-selected from the academic canon.

Every statistic shows that men cheat more than women.
In anonymous studies, women report being cheated on more than men and when asked if they’ve ever cheated, more men say they’ve cheated that women do. People try to refute this by saying that women are just lying, but all of the research that we have on lying indicates that men are also more likely to lie than women are.
When asked if they’ve ever slept with someone who’s in a relationship, women report higher instances of being the ‘other woman’ than men report being the ‘other man’.
And then we have studies that show that when it comes to ‘mate poaching’ (someone intentionally pursuing a relationship with a person who’s already in a relationship) women have far more success than men do.
This is made even more wild by the fact that women have far, far more opportunities to cheat than men do, and men are still cheating more.

Having worked for someone senior enough - these people don’t run their own lives. They don’t cook. They don’t clean. Don’t do groceries. Don’t do the garden. Don’t pick up kids. Don’t fetch their own medicine or dry cleaning or correspondence. 60 hrs is doable. FOR THEM.

I feel sorry for these people. Reading was never about grinding through self-help books, it's about being lifted out of yourself by a story, living through the eyes of another and finding we're not alone in our struggles. What a shameful thing to deny yourself that joy.
