Like you don’t think Seguins relationship with his teammates affects if he wants to stay in Dallas? Especially with Jamie Benn who he specifically mentioned that he wants him to come back? I think it’s closer to the opposite of your point. Who cares what the front office wants when the player is the one who gets to decide if he stays or not.

It’s fair to clarify who he’s unwanted by, because if he’s wanted by his teammates but not the front office, it’s totally possible that he doesn’t waive. It isn’t up to the coach, or the GM, it’s up to the player.

@JAYChi_Hawks Obviously you pull the trigger but no way Dallas is trading Robo. They just need to find a taker for Seguin's one year left at $9.85 mil. Once they do that, they can easily jump Robertson from his current $7.75 mil to $12-14 million.

Thinking about Levshunov. Thinking about the fact that this was practically his first NHL season. Thinking about the fact that the Hawks drafted him for his tools, something in which, if we bought into, we know would take time. Thinking about the fact this kids career has barely begun. Thinking about the fact that defence prospects take a little longer. I guess, in the end, this tells me... I'm not ready to give up on Arty.

The tax perk is relevant but it is overstated most of the time. It is not as simple as it appears on the surface because the tax rates vary greatly for away games vs home games, and jock taxes get complicated because some teams have different jock taxes depending on what state the player is coming from. He would still pay less overall in Dallas, but not to the extent most people think.

@NHLRumourReport Someone needs to explain taxes to Robo. 12 mil in Texas is equivalent to 13.5-14 in other states if you factor taxes. If he won’t take that then see ya. We’ll take the haul.

They’ve got $13.1 to sign 3 players minimum. Lyubushkin would make it $16.4 and change to sign 4. If Robo takes $12 (which I think is the floor) it would be $4.4 to sign 3 guys. It’s possible, but it’s hard to see them keeping Bourque in the mix as well. And this is all assuming Robo doesn’t want to test the market and push for $14 million or something

So they expect to keep Robertson (let's say 12 mil), Bourque (let's conservatively say 2 mil), Benn (1 mil). That puts them 4 mil over the cap. Lyubushkin trade alone puts them at -750,000 so that's not enough. That would leave them with 19 players and still in the red. Math don't math.
