The ruling that came down for the lower basin states to require more water cuts is disappointing. All while the upper basin states were only given recommendations. It's time for Arizona to take matters into our own hands with our water future. Make a deal with Mexico and build a desalination plant in Puerto Peñasco. Partner with shipping companies and build a shipping port, bypassing socialist, union heavy, high tax California. This would provide jobs and clean water to Mexico. Arizona gets to keep a majority of the water, controlling their destiny. It would also immediately stabilize the area by the US having a presence in the region, like we did when we built the Panama Canal. It's time for bold ideas, Arizona! 🇺🇸

The progress of AI is making me think quite differently about human intelligence. It's been deeply revelatory and quite humbling. We estimate the human brain's neural network at ~100 trillion parameters, compared with current frontier models at ~1-4 trillion. OpenAI's most recent preview solved 10 intractable math problems as a demo. The doubling time for the number of parameters in frontier models has been running about 5-7 months. Organizational architectures are improving rapidly as well, with more bang for the token buck. The human brain is organized into multiple, specialized processing regions driven by evolutionary needs. Frontier AI is doing the same thing, but now driven by self-improving algorithms. Human biology doesn't evolve nearly as fast. Sometime after 2028, frontier AI will not only exceed human parameter counts, but also be harnessing them far more effectively than our current brain architecture allows. Humbling stuff, indeed.

Interesting take from Youtube, as a campaign against human-generated slop would eliminate 90% of their content. There's a world of people who enjoy making and sharing AI creations, just like there's a world of people who record a song or two. Being anti-AI with your content sharing platform invites the creation of a pro-AI content sharing platform. I think this will prove unwise before too long.

This is an interesting take by YouTube. The reality as AI improves there is no way to determine “slop”. This is noble but futile and unfortunately some of the AI history based “slop” is quite good. And I just checked, it’s gone. So I hope it achieves authenticity. However it seems to be a performative play to their creators who have staged “walk outs”. We live in interesting times.

Early USENET was paradise for UNIX geeks like myself. The WELL was pretty awesome. And there were great bar pundits on CompuServe. AOL forums could easily be avoided in dialup era. If I had to pinpoint the changeover, it'd be when DSL started replacing dialup access. As a result, people could now spend the hours they used to spend watching mindless TV now making mindless conversation. Then smartphones came along and it all spiraled downward pretty quickly.

Who will be the first auto manufacturer to OEM Tesla's FSD? Elon dropped that the latest HW/SW would "work in pretty much any car with cameras". That's odd phrasing. Now he's going through the exercise of retrofitting a Cybercab with traditional controls to calibrate/test FSD. I find it strange that he'd decide this was necessary so late in the product cycle. But it's exactly what an OEM customer would have to do. So why would Elon want to do this, albeit covertly? FSD saves lives. Unfortunately, Tesla only gets ~2% of all passenger auto sales, not enough to move the needle. The more auto manufacturers incorporate FSD into their designs, the more lives get saved. Elon wants to see more lives saved with FSD. OEMing would presumably entail using Tesla's board w/revenue sharing for various subscription services. Besides saving more lives, its also a wonderful business model with huge expansion potential. Auto manufacturers have already seen customers start to buy FSD with a car attached. These companies know it won't be their car, it can't be because nothing works as well as FSD -- not now, and not in the future. The only question will be: who will be first to announce?

I want to solicit input from the crowd on this one. In the @Tesla earnings call last night @elonmusk said: "I think it will make sense to upgrade all cars that have less than HW4. Any cars that have cameras basically. I think we want to upgrade them to the next-gen AI board. We have an upgraded AI4 chip around the middle of next year. Then AI5, which hopefully will be in volume production in middle of next year." I don't know why he said .. "any cars that have camera's basically" .. From what we know all Tesla's have only camera's. Was this an implication that there is finally a High Definition Radar in works? Or was this just a misspoken sentence where he was trying to same something else? Give me some ideas what others heard..

The DSA platform is scaring the living crap out of most "normal" Democrats, as it should. It's about as toxic as you could imagine. Outside of a few far-left bubbles, it's not going to be very popular. I feel somewhat literate in far-left radicalism as I was immersed at a young age. Go look up the New World Liberation Front as just one wacko example. Never have I seen so much craziness so neatly formatted. I'm much more used to typewritten manifestos. The best part? It's splitting what remains of the Democratic Party into warring factions. Whereas MAGA split and then reformed the Republican party a while back, DSA will do the opposite. If anything, it will move the few sane Democrats more to the center, where they belong.

Guy wants to lease a space, sends over the signed lease. We never counter-sign until we have the first month's rent and deposit, so we wait. He sets up a time to meet to give us the check, and flakes. Does this multiple times. Then says wire is coming, and it doesn't arrive. A lease is a long-term marriage. If this is how somebody acts during the honeymoon phase, it's only going to get worse. I don't need to know any more - I'm out, not doing a deal with this person no matter what.

Iran has been heavily investing in first ballistic missiles and later drones for decades. A big chunk of their economy went to building this stuff. No one really know just how many they have, or where they have might have been hidden. Given the fragmented nature of their current regime, I'm not sure even they know where it all is, or who is in charge. I think it's safe to say the US has done a good job of eliminating weapon stores as they're found. I interpreted Caine's statement as "we got a bunch of it", not "we got every last one".
