Kwara M%ssacre: They Were K+lled for Refusing to Accept a Converted Form of Islamic Doctrine — Kwara Governor AbdulRazaq Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has confirmed a d#adly att+ck on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, which reportedly claimed the lives of 75 residents. The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, when suspected t%rrorists reportedly invaded the villages around 6pm, unleashing widespread destr¥ction and setting the King’s palace ablaze. Speaking during a condolence visit to the Emir of Kaiama on Wednesday, January 4, the governor said the victims were targeted for refusing to abandon their religious beliefs and submit to what he described as a converted form of Islamic doctrine. Addressing the Emir and members of the community, AbdulRazaq said, “I commiserate with you over the d+ath of 75 of your subjects. Your emirate versatile and from information we are getting, this village refused to succumb to a converted form of Islamic doctrine. They are nine under your emirate, abiding by the Islamic faith and basically did not want any alteration to the Hadith, pray to God pray to Allah and because they refused a change in doctrine and faith, they were att+cked and m%ssacred. It is different from what we used to see when subjects were k+dnapped for ransom but this was just a pure m%ssacre and must be condemned,” he told the gathering. The governor expressed deep sympathy with the affected families and condemned the att+ck, describing it as a senseless act of v+olence that must not be tolerated. He also assured the community of the state government’s commitment to improving security and bringing those responsible to justice.

TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI RECORD SIGNIFICANT GAINS IN TIMBUKTU TRIANGLE OPERATIONS; TERRORIST NETWORKS DISRUPTED, VBIED ATTACKS FOILED Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have sustained their advance into the Timbuktu Triangle, recording significant operational gains and further degrading terrorist networks operating within the area. In the latest phase of operations, troops successfully cleared and dominated key terrorist locations across the triangle, including Tergejeri, Chiralia, and the Ajigin/Abirma general areas. During the conduct of these operations, troops made intermittent contact with fleeing terrorist elements and engaged them with high volumes of fire, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists. On 20 January 2026, while consolidating at a harbour area approximately 6 km North of Chilaria, troops encountered 2 Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIED). Through vigilance and swift action, one VBIED was successfully neutralised. The second VBIED, however, breached the defensive position affecting some logistics platforms. In the course of this attack, some gallant soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force paid the supreme price, while others sustained injuries. The wounded were promptly evacuated by Nigerian Army Aviation helicopters to 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital. Throughout the evacuation, Nigerian Airforce platforms from the Air Component in synergy with other Nigerian Army air platforms provided continuous overwatch to ensure the safe extraction of casualties and the security of ground forces neutralising more terrorists in the process. In a further indication of the heavy losses suffered by the terrorists, troops discovered mass graves containing an estimated 20 terrorist bodies killed during encounters with troops in the Timbuktu Triangle and buried by their cohorts. This discovery exposes the scale of terrorist casualties and further discredits terrorist propaganda narratives. Across the Theatre, the security situation remains generally stable. Troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remain high, and operations continue with sustained pressure on fleeing terrorist elements. Troops of OPHK remain resolute in their commitment to protect civilians, dismantle terrorist networks, and restore lasting peace and security across the North East. BE YOUR BROTHER’S KEEPER: FORCE COMMANDER OPERATION WHIRL STROKE CHARGES TROOPS DURING OPERATIONAL VISIT The Force Commander, Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, has charged troops to remain dedicated, united, and professional in the discharge of their duties. He gave the charge during an operational visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion deployed at Tatyough and Yogbo communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State on Friday, 24 October 2025. Addressing the troops, Major General Gara reminded them of the importance of unity, teamwork, and discipline in achieving operational success. He urged the personnel to “be their brother’s keeper,” emphasizing the essence of comradeship and mutual support among troops in the field. According to him, “the spirit of brotherhood in battle means never abandoning your comrade, because when you leave him behind, you become more vulnerable.” The Force Commander also underscored the critical role of weapon handling, maintenance, and readiness in sustaining combat effectiveness. He noted that careful attention to weapons and equipment contributes significantly to operational efficiency and mission accomplishment. While commending the troops for their resilience and professionalism, Major General Gara expressed satisfaction with their performance and the improved security situation in the area. He observed that the presence of the troops has restored peace and confidence among residents, as farmers have now returned to their farmlands and communities to resume normal social and economic activities. He further revealed that the improved security has encouraged humanitarian organizations and development partners to return to the affected areas, with some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) already constructing boreholes and other essential infrastructure to improve living conditions.
