That’s beyond absurd and frankly not addressing.
1. I’m a journalist who has covered cards more than anyone in the last quarter century.
2. Are you implying because I don’t own cards, I can’t cover them. Is that like a sportswriter who didn’t play college basketball?
3. Are you suggesting that because I don’t own cards, I root against them? Also asinine because I’ve made my career and company in this business.

I cannot stress this enough, everyone who paid these prices, overpaid. Maybe able to get a short term flip for more. But collectors holding this card will only see a decline in 98% of cases.
He is not the next Ohtani or Judge.
Could be wrong. 2% chance.

OK let's walk through it.
Car price is $15,000 and KBB says that falls in the "good deal" range.
Your neighbor bought the same car at another dealership for $13,000 last month. Also known as..... last comp.
You tell your dealership about your neighbors purchase.
What do you think they do?

Imagine you go to a car lot, find a car, sit down at the desk, whip out your phone and start looking up a book value before negotiating and the salesperson tells you if you're going to do that you won't make a deal.

While I agree comps aren't the end all, especially for rare pieces, telling someone if they look at comps you won't deal with them is 🤡 behavior. You should want your buyer to be educated before negotiating. Unless you're blatantly trying to rip them off.

The group-think amongst this generation of day-flippers is amazing - this video has triggered them. The "old-head" is obviously sick of having a phone shoved in his face & getting comps read to him.
One day the youngsters will be there too.

Quick notes because this blew up
1. “WORST” is hyperbolic, for sure. There are always worse 😂
2. Comps aren’t law, but using them to guide your decision-making shouldn’t get you basically dismissed from a table
3. Yes, he can sell his cards for whatever he wants. Similarly, I can judge the way he approached the potential customer.
4. It is definitely weird that the potential customer set up a camera at this guy’s table. Not a fan of that.

Had to share this one that I found on Instagram (I’ll link it below). This dude is the WORST kind of vendor. Not sure how he sells anything. It’s not just the decision to ignore comps, he was just soooo combative too. Nightmare vendor.

He obviously doesn't care if he makes the other person any money. This day flipper stuff is tiring to some, I would hope people realize that.

Card shows are cheaply attended swap meets , and people want to act like their fav card has god tier value
Don’t sell your card for below what you want , but don’t act like comps are silly or something

I give him credit for shutting it down early to save the other guy his time

There’s a really good lesson in all this. E&L has been around for a while. Takes a lot of time to build and maintain a good reputation.. and in one moment, it’s gone. There’s a saying I often say when trying to make difficult decisions- I rather lose than burn a bridge. 🐸☕️

BEWARE buyers and sellers! @EandLRips and I agreed to a $3,420 deal on an psa 9 error Coro Coro Mew, at the time there was no recent sales data on the card and I took the risk on the card paying over current 9 normal comps. An auction for a psa 8 at the time of deal was at $1200. I sent over the money and it was confirmed. That auction today finished high and now he has backed out of the deal, he had also transferred the money immediately and was not able to send an immediate refund. Both actions in my opinion are terrible ways to do business and I advise caution dealing with someone who’s willing to back out of a deal this large just because he “lost value”. Especially since I essentially took all the risk betting on the auction since now that it finished well he’s is just not going to send the card. (I bet it would’ve been sent if the auction finished low :) ) I have attached a screen recording of our entire convo including the deal we made I have now received my refund and feel comfortable sending this post.
