The Arab League, the OIC, the “regional powers” that love issuing statements about everything suddenly have nothing to say when it actually matters. It’s a complete institutional failure. And then they’ll sit there later debating “declining Arab influence” and questioning why Western alliances exist. You don’t get to disappear in moments like this and then complain about who showed up. The Gulf has carried others through stability, crises, and reconstruction. Now the test is here, and the absence isn’t just disappointing, it’s exposing exactly how hollow these structures have become.

UAE air defences engaged 7 ballistic missiles, 16 UAVs The UAE air defence systems on 23th March 2026 engaged 7 ballistic missiles and 16 UAVs launched from Iran. Since the onset of the blatant Iranian aggression, UAE air defences have engaged 352 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and 1,789 UAVs. These attacks have resulted in the martyrdom of 2 members of the armed forces while performing their national duty, as well as 6 fatalities of Pakistani, Nepali, Bangladeshi and Palestinian nationalities. A total of 161 people were also injured, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate and severe. The injured included nationals of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia, Sweden and Tunisia. The Arab League, the OIC, and even the GCC and OPEC+, were built on a bet, that shared identity, shared faith, shared fear, and shared oil creates shared interest. It didn't. 🔴 The Arab League wasn't even born from Arab solidarity, it was a vehicle for Egyptian ambition, dressed in pan-Arab clothing, engineered with British blessing, structurally designed to protect sovereignty, not pool it. Collective action was always optional. Which is why it didn't just fail Palestine, it failed every intra-Arab crisis it ever touched. Lebanon. Iraq. Syria. Yemen. Sudan. ➡️ It either stood outside the event or limped behind it. 🔴 The OIC was never really about Muslim solidarity. It was Saudi Arabia's answer to Nasser, a religious framework to counter pan-Arab nationalism with something Riyadh could lead. But Nasser died in 1970, and the OIC is yet to find a new reason to exist. Good luck! ➡️ Fifty-seven member states, half a century later, sustained one product at scale: statements. 🔴 The GCC actually worked, though briefly. It was almost always a family held together by fear, not affection. Border disputes, resource rivalries, and the permanent tensions embedded in the big brother smaller siblings dynamics. Then the mask started slipping. 2014: Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Qatar. 2017: full rupture. And today, beneath the carefully managed optics of Gulf unity, Saudi Arabia and the UAE tensions still simmering. ➡️ The Iranian threat that originally forged the GCC is a contained, defeated mess no longer useful as a unifier. The glue is gone. 🔴 Even OPEC/OPEC+ is dying, though a different death. Not political irrelevance, but market irrelevance. It has become a body to manage disagreements over output cuts. ➡️ The cartel that once shook the global economy is now just a group chat where nobody listens to the admin. 🔴🔴 The 4 bodies’ headquarters are still staffed. Their summits still produce glossy photography. But the real deals are now cut bilaterally, quietly, in the margins. The scaffolding didn't fall. The illusion that it was holding anything up did. ➡️ The post-Iran Middle East will be more competitive, more individual, and more honest. No logos, summits, or fake consensus. The future belongs to states that stopped waiting for agreement and started building leverage, and new alliances premised on interests not identity. Unsentimentally sovereign. Transactional by design. The ghost institutions had a long run. Time to lay them to rest.
