School Management Committee (SMC) play a vital role in strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) under the NIPUN Bharat Mission, in line with the vision of #NEP2020 which prioritizes universal #FLN by Grade 2. By ensuring active participation of parents and the community, they help create nurturing and inclusive learning environments. SMC encourage the use of the mother tongue or local language in early grades, promote reading habits through community-supported reading corners, organize storytelling sessions and support parent-led reading initiatives that make learning more engaging and meaningful for children. On his death anniversary, I remember Dr. Kasturirangan, not just as a towering architect of India’s space journey or the guiding force behind NEP 2020, but as a mentor whose wisdom deeply shaped my own understanding of education and nation-building. He believed in an India where curiosity is not confined, where learning is rooted in our civilisational ethos yet open to the world and where every child—irrespective of background—has the opportunity to realise their full potential. His vision for NEP 2020 was not merely reform, but a quiet revolution to make education more holistic, flexible and aligned with the aspirations of a new India. His clarity, humility and unwavering faith in young minds left a lasting imprint on me. In every step we take to strengthen our education system, I continue to hear his voice—measured, thoughtful and always guided by a larger purpose. India has lost a guiding light, but his vision will continue to illuminate our path for generations to come.

During the national-level webinar on #EarthDay2026, organised by Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, under the aegis of #EcoClubsforMissionLife, an awareness video was showcased to address the escalating environmental concerns. With the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” the video sensitised school students to the triple planetary crisis viz biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution. It also encouraged children to adopt mindful consumption, e-waste reduction, energy conservation and tree plantation.
