This is one of my bigger issues with the show amidst all the others. If they wanted to do all this, why not just just use Nero? He’s not as strong so him losing doesn’t grate on people. He wisecracks but not nearly as smoothly as Dante in the games. He has much more overt romantic vibes to his story. And coming off of 5, he’s actually pretty well received now. Why slap all of that into a Dante skin suit? “Name recognition” If they wanted to use Dante then just adapt his story, it’s that simple. Don’t tell me that it wasn’t good in the first place or it’s some labor that’s impossible, that’s pure defeatist behavior and I’m not having it. It reeks of the usual “we can do better than the original” mentality that most of these western mainstream writers have. None of them have the talent to back it up.
