The saddest personal news:
I'm being laid off from the @EverettHerald.
Impossible to express how much of a joy it has been to work with everyone here. Other staff will get notice today. I don't know who or even how many, but we'll have a cathartic story about it in the paper.

Yet again, @mcclatchy & @tonywhunter have failed to show their words are more than just that.
Juneteenth is not a bargaining chip, and using it as one is shameful.

Today, @mcclatchy CEO @tonywhunter emphasized in an email how important Juneteenth is to the company. He forgot to mention McClatchy is withholding the holiday from newsrooms currently in contract negotiations as a bargaining chip. Here is our response.

The Tacoma News Tribune, the Bellingham Herald, the Olympian and the Tri-City Herald journalists formed a union - @WaNewsGuild - about a year and a half ago. We did it because we wanted a voice. We wanted to make sure that McClatchy couldn’t continue to dismiss the Northwest.

Man with a gun just told me + another journalist that media isn’t wanted here, that he pepper-sprayed members of the media earlier, and we have 5 min to leave. Later said “We’re going to shoot you f***ing dead in the next year.” This vid is all I got as he reached at my phone.
