New Jersey is ready and excited to host eight FIFA World Cup matches this summer – including the World Cup Final. Since I took office, my Administration has been working to prepare for the biggest sporting event our state has ever seen – and today, NJ TRANSIT released their Mobility Plan to move 40,000 fans to and from each match safely and efficiently. In the FIFA World Cup agreement that my Administration inherited, FIFA put zero dollars towards transporting World Cup fans. It also eliminated parking at MetLife Stadium, putting the burden of transporting four times more matchday riders than typical for an event at the stadium on NJ TRANSIT. This agreement will cost NJ TRANSIT at least $48 million, while FIFA is positioned to make $11 billion during the World Cup. As I have said repeatedly, FIFA should cover the cost of transporting its fans. If it won’t, we will not be subsidizing World Cup ticket holders on the backs of New Jerseyans who rely on NJ TRANSIT every day.

@the_bonnfire Is it right though, all extra cost? Extra full trains should be at its most efficient, $150 seems bonkers ve $12:50 for less busy trains? You should ask why aren’t FIFA challenging all host Cities based your article, Boston are $80, no sure FIFA have put out a statement re: that?

Here's what we know about the verbal dispute between NJ governor Mikie Sherrill and FIFA over train ticket prices on World Cup match days. Reports now say tickets could reach $150. Sherrill says FIFA left her new administration with no choice. sportingnews.com/us/soccer/news…

All you suckers that love FIFA, it will cost NJ Transit $48 million dollars transporting riders to the matches….AND there is no tailgating. The clueless governor is acting like this wasn’t signed in 2018 and adjusted in 2023. All other host cities are charging fan normal rates. Sherrill and NJ Transit are thinking about charging $100 (normally $12.90) and there is no tailgating. Save your money. Stream it. MetLife sucks anyway…you’re not missing anything. Don’t continue to put up with this crap from her. Philly isn’t charging any additional fees to travel.

And on Boston World Cup front: Parking at nearby lots begins at $175 ($270 for the July 9 quarterfinal). By contrast, MLS’s Revs offer free parking at Gillette Stadium for regular-season games. socceramerica.com/boston-world-c…

@MikeWoitalla @pkedit What’s the justification from $12:50 to $100+, high utilisation should make unit cost cheaper than norm?

Not going to get into the weeds of the World Cup transportation row. Will only say that fans who attend the World Cup are typically not the rich, let’s pay money for big events crowd familiar to Americans. They are ⚽️ fans who sometimes save up for years to be able to attend.

FIFA is charging fans up to $10,000 for a single ticket to the final. They’re charging over $200 for “premium” parking at the American Dream Mall – while eliminating parking at MetLife Stadium. They’re set to make $11 billion off of the World Cup overall. But New Jerseyans should foot a $48 million bill for transportation costs? Not happening.

@GovSherrillNJ $48,000,000/320,000 =$150.00 It costs $150 a person to run a completely full train, how much are you losing on other 357 days / year with half empty trains??

We inherited an agreement where FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup. And while NJ TRANSIT is stuck with a $48 million bill to safely get fans to and from games, FIFA is making $11 billion. I’m not going to stick New Jersey commuters with that tab for years to come. FIFA should pay for the rides. But if they don’t – I’m not going to let New Jersey get taken for one.

@BBCScotlandNews Can BBC advise how to remove those accountable? The “official” resale FIFA approved touting site is the tip of the iceberg. Face value tickets were a ridiculous price to start with so the comparison isn’t right. Infantino and everyone involved needs to go.

@TartanArmyGroup Genuinely might get on the phone to some bus companies tomorrow about renting a big yellow school bus + driver for the day. Rough show of hands on who'd be up for that? Might as well check the prices

🚨 Boston train to Gillette Stadium: 📅 Tickets between Boston South Station and the stadium go on sale on Wednesday 8th April at 16:00 Pitlochry time. They are limited, so if you intend to use the train I wouldn’t hang about. 💰 The ticket costs $80 for the return journey and everyone must have a ticket including U11s. The ticket includes all commuter rail trains, busses and the subway in the region. 📱 You can only buy the tickets on the MBTA app. 🍏: apps.apple.com/gb/app/mbta-mt… 🤖: play.google.com/store/apps/det…

@TartanArmyGroup So if you get allocated boarding group A u need to leave for game 2:15 - 2:45, this sounds like an even bigger risk to get ripped all day at Stadium, it’s in the middle of nowhere? so no options other than FIFA around the ground 😰

@AdamCrafton_ @TheAthleticFC Unbelievable! I paid $1,230 for 3 tickets to take my 2 boys to a game, teams not yet announced. Turns out the game is at 9 PM and possibly the worst matchup in WC history (Haiti vs Scotland). Now on top of that, there is no parking available and $80 commuter rail tickets.

Countries that 'deserve' to be at the 2026 World Cup: Canada Mexico USA Australia Iraq Iran Japan Jordan Korea Republic Qatar Saudi Arabia Uzbekistan Algeria Cabo Verde Congo DR Côte d'Ivoire Egypt Ghana Morocco Senegal South Africa Tunisia Curaçao Haiti Panama Argentina Brazil Colombia Ecuador Paraguay Uruguay New Zealand Austria Belgium Bosnia and Herzegovina Croatia Czechia England France Germany Netherlands Norway Portugal Spain Sweden Switzerland Türkiye Why? Because they qualified. That is literally the only reason that anyone 'deserves' to be at the World Cup.

John Terry: "One day, I remember well, in the last 10 minutes of the game, we were only one goal ahead and under a lot of pressure. At that moment, he called me and told me: 'You have to clear the ball away, and then you and Cahill should both fall to the ground. This way, the referee won't be able to force you to leave the field to be treated; he has no right to take out two players at once.' None of us knew that rule. Even the referee approached us and told us that we had to leave the field for a few seconds. But we created a small dispute with him, and I told him to consult with the assistant referee because he was wrong. Indeed, the referee spoke with his assistant and realised that he couldn’t force us to leave, as the rule states that when two players from the same team fall to the ground at the same time, they are not required to leave the field. As a result, we both stayed on the field, catching our breath. That's Mourinho. He had tricks that even we didn't know about. He knew how to outsmart his opponent, even using the rules. I believe he was way ahead of everyone else. He's a genius."
