It is hard to understand why Ireland remains such an outlier in terms of school library provision. Access to a print-rich, professionally-staffed school library should be the right of every child.

If I could count the number of times I've talked to teachers who are really struggling for time or resources to prioritize literacy for those who need it. It's a whole additional job - students deserve access to a school library with a qualified librarian. #JCSP #schoollibraries

There are just 30 state-funded, professionally staffed school libraries in Ireland - under the JCSP Library Project jcsplibraries.ie / @jcsplibraries. Below are the current Oireachtas Education Committee recommendations - but no progress on their implementation to date.
