Exactly one year ago today, @FireflySpace’s Blue Ghost landed on the Moon. Ahead of touchdown, Firefly shared the plaque with 700+ names representing the team behind the mission. A former colleague texted me to let me know my name was included. I was completely humbled, and honestly, a bit emotional. That night, my sister — the one who was always first to congratulate or console me — saw the news of Firefly’s success and texted to say she was proud of me. That is the last text I have from her. The next morning, I got the hardest phone call of my life from my brother-in-law. My sister had died suddenly. So today I’m holding two things at once: the wonder of a mission that will outlast all of us, and the grief of losing my biggest champion and someone I loved deeply, in the same 24 hours. History gets made by teams who refuse to act like it’s impossible. Love is what makes it matter. And somewhere on the Moon, there’s a small, silent reminder that I got to be part of something bigger, and that someone I loved saw it, and was proud to call me her sister. Thank you to all my former colleagues at Firefly for making space (literally) for me on the mission. Congrats on the 1 year anniversary.
