Lighter is better than any perp DEX. Yesterday’s fireside chat gave us a really solid glimpse into Lighter’s future roadmap and honestly, in my opinion, Lighter is one of the few DEXs that has both performance and scalability together. Lighter consistently pushes more than 5K TPS every second, and during periods of extreme volatility it even broke one of the highest throughput records in the Ethereum ecosystem. High TPS on its own is already impressive, but what makes Lighter different is that it verifies all of this fully onchain. Even while generating massive trading volume, Lighter still uses less than 1% of Ethereum’s blockspace. And in the coming days, LighterEVM is also arriving. Honestly I have way more hope for it than HyperEVM because, outside of a few projects, around 95% of the Hyperliquid ecosystem felt pretty weak to me. Also, I’m personally trying to build a perp DEX aggregator, so if any devs are interested, let’s build together. Since launch, Lighter’s prover cluster has scaled roughly 100x. At this point, proving itself is no longer the bottleneck the real challenge now is coordinating systems and handling data movement efficiently. Lighter is already getting very close to Stage 1, but the ultimate goal is reaching Stage 2. And I think Stage 2 will focus much more heavily on LighterEVM, utility expansion, and new products. Right now the system still uses a single sequencer with FIFO (First In, First Out) ordering, but research is already happening around TEE and MPC-based encrypted mempools to improve this further. And Vitalik Buterin said that “forcing sequencer decentralization isn’t the main objective the real goal is giving users strong mathematical guarantees against adversarial MEV.” Vitalik also mentioned that oracles are basically the “skeleton in the closet” of the entire crypto industry. If your oracle infrastructure runs on a single server, then there’s no real point in strengthening ZK proofs or reaching Stage 2. Security is only as strong as its weakest link. For major markets, third-party providers are used. For pre-launch or exotic markets, AMM-based pricing is used, while commodities like crude oil rely on futures-based pricing. Right now, oracle inputs are still controlled by the sequencer. Vitalik also believes that universal futures markets could eventually allow people to manage personalized CPI exposure things like hedging rent, AI chip costs, or even custom personal consumption baskets. Earlier people thought Ethereum transaction costs were too high, and most people also believed ZK tech projects were slow, but Lighter has destroyed all those myths. They are generating more TPS than Base, Polygon PoS, MegaETH, and many others combined. Also, zk proofs have improved so much that the proving cost is literally around 0.0001/tx, and Vitalik himself mentioned this. And we know Lighter is the only L2 product in the space that has everything Vitalik is talking about. This is definitely a game changer for the whole space. And Lighter’s core innovation itself is low latency and privacy. Lighter is the only product that inherits Ethereum’s security, that too with offchain zk proofs. That’s insane. Lighter settles on L1, because of this the sequencer risk becomes low, due to which users’ funds always remain safe. Earlier people used to build on L2 because they wanted speed and low latency, but now we get all of that directly on Ethereum. There’s no need for garbage L2s anymore. Coinbase has announced its plan to activate AQAv2 on USDC as the treasury deployer, with Circle serving as the technical deployer responsible for CCTP and native cross-chain infrastructure. Both Coinbase and Circle have committed to stake HYPE to activate AQAv2. As part of this transition, Native Markets has agreed to terms granting Coinbase the right to purchase the USDH brand assets. With Coinbase, in its role as treasury deployer, sharing the vast majority of reserve yield revenue with the protocol, USDC will become the most aligned stablecoin on Hyperliquid. As a result, canonical outcome (HIP-4) markets will use USDC as the quote asset in a future network upgrade. User and builder feedback has been consistent that fragmentation leads to degraded experience; now, the community no longer needs to choose between liquidity and protocol alignment. The pioneering work of Native Markets in launching USDH as the first production-scale stablecoin sharing yield directly with a protocol in a purely onchain implementation made AQAv2 possible. The learnings and mechanics pioneered by USDH will live on in AQAv2. The Hyper Foundation will give grants to eligible HIP-3 deployers, HIP-1 deployers, and builders who integrated USDH, supporting teams through migration over the next months. These grants reflect an ongoing commitment to teams who choose to build on Hyperliquid and align with the protocol. USDH markets are fully functional but will sunset over time.
