Hospitals and clinics in the Eastern Cape are without medicinal supplies. The supplies are in a warehouse as the company contracted to deliver supplies is failing to do so, leading to patients being turned away in hospitals and clinics, and wasteful expenditure as some medicine expires. After the medicine has been delivered to the warehouse, the medicine needs to be delivered to the clinics and hospitals in a day or so, however in the Eastern Cape, medicine normally stays for 3 months in the Mthatha warehouse. In some cases, when the expired medicine is taken to clinics and hospitals, patients are given expired medicine.
