Engineering teams should follow incident response management processes for less serious incidents, to practice for when that serious thing happens. It's important to normalise your response processes, so they're somewhat automatic when the 💩 hits the how-is-there-no-fan-emoji?

@kintoandar Oh. Yes. I agree, of course. But I made a conscious decision to stop fighting that battle a few years back. Too many other battles to fight, only so many days in my life. Now I just adopt whatever meaning the person I'm talking to seems to think it means.

Yesterday a very senior candidate told me he wasn't precious regarding DevOps being a role or not, so I explained that a side effect of being a role means responsibility is shifted to a specific team defeating the entire purpose - besides, if that team fails did DevOps fail?

I wish I had read this before writing my piece on platform engineering, or I would have taken greater pains to ensure my piece sounded nothing like it. 😑 "devops is dead! long live platform engineering!" sets my fucking teeth on edge.

@mipsytipsy I do understand the industry has been using devops as a marketing buzzword for years now. But I still, stubbornly, believe that cross-team, socio-technical communication, is the way forward for highly productive and reliability-oriented teams. A single team shouldn't own that 😅

@mipsytipsy This way you're actively segregating responsibility that should be intrinsically tied with the application owners, including all the good stuff like mon, log, tracing, perf, alerting and incident response. Great motivators for quality software and improved observability.
