I've been teaching the whole A Level chemistry course this year and I've found it v hard - lots of stuff I've never done, and much I haven't done for >10 years. Planning has been the most important thing, and it starts with my notebook:

@anon_opin Sure - easy to cook but a mare to clear-up!

One you've done it a few times, roast dinners, up to and including Christmas dinners, are surprisingly easy to make. There must be a secret society of mums who make sure this isn't common knowledge.

@RogersHistory Most books don't have enough practice questions for stds to learn new concepts.....in science at least.

Booklets - what’s wrong with textbooks? If it’s a money thing, I totally get it, but if a huge amount of time and teacher resource is going in to creating booklets from scratch when textbooks are already available?

@mrsjmasters So true- unlike maths when students are often asked 'prove if x=7, y must be 2.5' - in bio they've got to simple know what are realistic answers....

I always tell students to do a logic check on magnification answers. Today one of them chuckled and said they’d just calculated the actual length of an E. coli cell to be 1,000,000,000,000 micrometers but knew it was ridiculous so 🤷🏻‍♀️ #HereComeTheMetreLongBacteria

Hey @RoyalSocBio are chloroplasts called this because this is where plants store chlorine, or because chloro means green - and both chlorine and chloroplasts are green? (This teacher needs to know!)

@edmunds_dr I'm going to use with yr10s to check that they know each topic from KS3 before going into GCSE - I work in a hospital school - everyone is from different schools + so at different places.....schools useful.....

Some feedback that I’ve had on my KS3 books so far is that a class set is useful for setting easy cover (on top of using in regular lessons) These could help with reducing workload of cover?

Live on a standard residential terrace street and got this note through the letterbox last night because the car was parked a bit further down the road.

@Strickomaster Not that surprising - we all want to be like the teacher we respected + liked - sure there were some we just respected - but most teachers want to be liked as well - human nature I guess...
