@Dragoon581898@AvonandsomerRob Yes understand. I think it’s a typo in the original post where you say your step dad is 14 years older than your mom rather than younger.
@kjackson1978@AvonandsomerRob Okay here it is. I was ten, my stepdad was 22 and my mom was 36 when we became a family unit. Does that clear it up? I was 12 years younger than he and mom was 14 years older than he.
@AvonandsomerRob My step dad is 14 years older than my mom. I’m closer in age to him than she is. (12 years difference. Now I’m 71 and he’s 83.) They were married for 60 years before mom passed. Best dad ever, too.
What’s your first United starting 11?
This was mine.
Leighton, Martin, Bruce, Phelan, Robson, Webb, McClair, Hughes, Wallace.
Bench, Robins and Blackmore.
Bet some of the older reds can even guess the game from this
Labour delivering. Where’s the media coverage of?
- NHS waiting lists falling by 43,000 in January (down 374,000 in 18 months)
- Fastest ambulance response in 5 years
- A&E waits the shortest for four years
@Ankaman616 Romero type the obvious choice but not many Argentine no 1s are happy as a backup. Rai Van der Gouw was also outstanding for us. I think an older keeper the best bet. Maybe one with 400* prem games under his belt, who knows the club?
@Nigel_Farage I know the circumstances are different but when the Falklands were invaded the Navy had 46 warships sailing within 3 days, and over 120 ships in total. Nigel is right that we need to invest in our armed forces.
It has taken Labour two weeks to send a single naval vessel from Portsmouth behind me to defend our British base in Cyprus.
The depleted state of our armed forces is making the rest of the world lose respect for us.
This is a wake-up call.
@SaysSimulation Britain has an air base on Cyprus, RAF fighters are already there!
The Royal Navy is currently preparing for NATO commitments - including sending an aircraft carrier to the High North. A region that President Trump was berating allies for neglecting only a few months ago.
After centuries of being dominated at sea by the Brits, the French are finally now clearly superior. A seven ship carrier strike group actually at sea and headed towards a combat zone is far better than what the UK has been able to muster.
@henrywinter I think he’s an excellent pundit. He’s insightful and naturally funny. Far better than someone like Redknapp who looks polished but I’m not sure has ever said anything interesting about a game.
Wayne Rooney was always an illuminating interview as a player. His analysis in Rio in 2014 of England’s shortcomings at that World Cup – “not streetwise enough” – was painfully accurate. Rooney’s now growing into punditry judging by latest MOTD. He’s not always been the most natural or convincing pundit on TV - his podcast is good - and has divided opinion amongst viewers but he was very good last night.
Delivered insightful analysis especially on Haaland’s movement and all-round contribution. You’d expect that insight from a former striker. But Rooney also excellent on Leeds’ tactics, especially their press, cutting out the space for Villa and forcing them wide. Drops in detail on individuals like Rogers (importance to Villa), Calvert-Lewin (leap). Strong views on Chelsea’s defending and marking, too. More of this, please.
If you want to see how parts of the media use politically-motivated attacks to try and discredit people like me who challenge the status-quo then read this
Below is a piece by @TimesLucy
She has used notorious left-wing activist Jon Portes (who has no PhD) to try & discredit my academic work six days out from an election
She does not mention my dozens of peer-reviewed articles in leading academic journals
She does not mention that I wrote two national bestsellers
She does not mention that I wrote two books with the top tier Oxford and Cambridge university presses
She does not mention that I won awards for my contribution to social science
She does not mention how widely cited my work is on Google Scholar
No
She doesn’t do any of this
Nor by the way does she point out how Jonathan Portes has done next to none of this
What she does instead in the most blatant and lazy way is use a known political activist to try and discredit a report I wrote four years ago and which was well received at the time (cited in the Financial Times among others) to try and influence a by-election
This is not journalism
It is sloppy, shoddy political activism masquerading as journalism
Everybody in Westminster who knows Portes can see what has happened here
Which is why I WANT you all to read this story so you can see what games and tricks are used to try and discredit people like me
Over the last 72 hours I have come under constant attack from political activists masquerading as journalists, who think I will somehow be cowered or pushed off course
I won’t.
I am in politics and the national debate for as long as I am alive.
I will never stop making the case for the hardworking majority & I will never stop calling out sloppy, politically-motivated hit jobs when I see them
Vote Reform, Get Starmer Out, Put Gorton & Denton First

Michael Carrick’s quietly powerful words yesterday about his pride in what Manchester United stands for is a reminder of how to represent the club with maturity, responsibility and empathy. Sir Jim, take note. #MUFC
Third of voters say Badenoch is doing good job as leader up from 16% in May. Her net favourability outstrips Starmer & Farage. Not surprising when only one party is making case for fiscal discipline & conservative values. If there was an election tomorrow I know who I’d vote for
@Corballyred For me Gerrard is the most overrated. Hardly won anything, never close to winning the league. Didnt have the balls to go and play for a big team, preferred to be the big fish in the small pond.
12 most overhyped PL players ever:
- Jaap Stam: Only 79 PL games for Utd before Fergie sold him.
- Paul Scholes: Zero impact for England; retired by Lampard/Gerrard at 29.
- David Beckham: Flopped at Real Madrid; not missed by Utd.
- Eric Cantona: Never performed in Europe or internationally.
- Didier Drogba: Avg just 11 PL goals/season (many pens).
- Frank Lampard: Defensive liability; poor all-round game; ~40% goals from set pieces.
- Eden Hazard: Avg 12 PL goals/season; only 1 season ≥20 in 7 yrs.
- Willian: Avg just 5 goals/season.
- Jack Grealish: £100m+ transfer; avg only 3 PL goals/season.
- Mesut Özil: Ghosted in big games; luxury player; avg 4 PL goals/season.
- Cole Palmer: 40% of 45 PL goals from pens; rarely vs Big 6; only 2 open-play goals vs top teams.
- Phil Foden: Hailed best England player since Gazza despite 4 intl goals in 49 caps.
Did I miss anyone 😄
That was the worst and most unsafe train journey I’ve experienced.
@CrossCountryUK you should be ashamed. You lay on a dirty, old train. And allow it to fill to the gunnels. People jammed in filling toilets, vestibules and luggage hold areas. Elderly and disabled people, and mums with young kids treated like cattle. Packed in like sardines. Plus no audible information - tannoy so quiet no one could hear. It’s dangerous for people to travel squashed like this and had I been travelling with my wife and children I’d have got off.
From what I can see on X this is a regular occurrence.
Mark my words - if there is a major tragedy involving an overcrowded train like this there will be horrendous and unnecessary loss of lives, and people rightly going to jail for turning a blind eye.
XC Trains Ltd / Crosscountry Trains - you need to find a way to put the passengers before your profits and shareholders.
