@plopesresearch @romainnith Thanks! And that backpack is incredibly cool. The lab I'm currently in does a lot of work with VR, and I'm really impressed by how big of an effect you got with such a small (but powerful) device :)

@klpoggensee Love this work Katie! We did some work on vertical moving weights (youtube.com/watch?v=57izT0… by my PhD student @romainnith , who's also a fan of your work) and found some interesting illusions while jumping. We always wondered about a gyroscopic version, now wonder no more! 🥳

@scmov Thanks! It assists balance (e.g., how long you can stand on a beam), but not loss of balance. For falling, you'd need something much more powerful like a body weight support harness or a mitigation strategy to prevent injuries (like an air bag).

@klpoggensee Interesting system but how it can assist mechanically during losing balance?

Now is probably a good time (many months late) to share with the Twitterverse that I got a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship to continue this research. If any PhDers have questions on European postdoc grants, I have a long list and lots of thoughts so feel free to reach out...

My fave side results: The placebo worked! People liked it better than unpowered modes, even though performance was the same. The better performing mode (low vs. high) was subject-specific (this former HILO researcher isn't surprised), but 77% of people favored their “best” mode.

If you're evaluating #exoskeletons (or reading studies that do), this may be the single most important thing to do 👇🏽 Before jumping to conclusions or overgeneralizing, ask yourself: 🤔 How much time were users given to acclimate to the exo (i.e., the new tool)? A short 🧵...

@KarlZelik Thanks for the share, Karl! This is exactly the first question I ask myself whenever I read a new wearable robotics paper :)

So exciting to see it all come together! As a former CMUEBL/SUBLer, I too am amazed (though maybe not totally surprised) that this was achieved so quickly. Congrats to @pjslade, @aiprof_mykel, @StanfordNMBL, and @StevenHCollins :) I can't wait to see where you go from here!
