@TonyRoddUK The rate of VAT needs to drop and the registration threshold for smaller businesses in general must be raised. £85k turnover is nothing and is completely out of date.
Really sorry to read what you’re going through. It’s a truly horrible time for our industry.
English

@Sacha_Lord And an adjustment to the threshold - this is also extremely important and needs to be pushed as much as a reduction in rate.
English

@UKHofficial @UKHospKate VAT reform is imperative. Threshold for reg needs to double at least, and rate must half.
English

.@UKHospKate revealed our 3-point plan for helping the sector, post Autumn Statement:
👉 Investment: a permanent, lower rate multiplier, reform for rents & planning
👉 Jobs: 2× employer NI thresholds, reform Apprenticeship Levy
👉 Growth: VAT should be cut & allowances reformed

@AlexReilley1 A change to the VAT rate / threshold would have been the biggest help to combat current challenges for hospitality SMEs, and that’s before the rise in NLW was announced. Now we’ve got to find an extra ~10% extra profit to just stand still and cover wages. Nowhere near good enough
English

@Sacha_Lord VAT has got to be the next campaign. Finding an extra 10% in profit just to cover wage increases before other rises in utilities / rent / costs is just not going to be possible for so many small (especially hospitality) businesses. Feeling absolutely abandoned, again.
English

@simonjamesjupp @UKHofficial @UKHospKate Please please please look at VAT. It is absolutely crippling us.

@ThreeUK @iD_Mobile_UK Could you please investigate a network fault in NE28 as soon as possible? Internet virtually unusable tonight with similar reports from other areas. Thank you.

Why are the silent? 👇
"The left wing mainstream media has gone into meltdown over my comments but, interestingly, I am yet to see one Labour front bench MP disagree with my comments.
"Is this another U-turn from Labour because their silence is deafening."

@PeterBorgNeal Rate is far too high and the threshold for registration is far too low. Our input VAT is minuscule compared to the output VAT, as it is for many hospitality businesses. It’s a huge tax burden that we’ve got to deal with on top of energy, wages, stock and lower customer spending.
