If you'd welcome a windfall of historical language and etymology, all connected to the humble English word 'apple', then boy, do I have a new article for you. The star word leads us far into linguistic prehistory and the debate over an absent consonant. open.substack.com/pub/dannylbate…

Agak mengesampingkan tapi apalah daya Manado yang jadi placeholder se-Sulawesi Utara. Dan Sulawesi yang jadi placeholder banyak daerah di pulau Sulawesi Apalagi Kalimantan dan Papua (an effin humongous chunk of the island). Tolonglah, seenggaknya jangan sak pulau ngono lho.

Kamu orang mana? Bandung om Bandungnya mana? Garut om.... Kamu orang mana? Bandung om Bandungnya mana? Sukabumi om.... Kamu orang mana? Bandung om Bandungnya mana? Sumedang om....

@uglyluhan It's not even a guess. On another note, I hate this grouping since Eastern Indonesia has arguably around half of the total number of languages in Indonesia and about 4/5 of them are not even in the same family as Malay/Indonesian.

I grow desperate to find out if any scholar has further the discussion on PAN coronals. Could've shine more insight onto why Javanese has retroflexes and Malay and Kapampangan has palatals.

Tambah bonus satu paragraf panjangnya dua halaman.

tbh, i kinda get why people from STEM have intense skepticism towards social science considering that people who defend social science keep repeating abstract words like capitalism, colonialism, decolonisation without any consideration with the empirical

@januskopfs @hidrokarbone @_itenoir fundamentally (and severely, if one is to look at it pessimistically) alter the results which then might not ever be open for replication. That's why social sciences cannot be truly viewed in the same lense as natural sciences.

@januskopfs @hidrokarbone @_itenoir that which cannot be replicated that simply AND cannot simply be dismissed. I give Sundanese development of /b, w/ > /c, nc/ for example. Natural sciences has their ground rooted in proofs tested time after time after time. Human, I'd say, is a variable whose change can —

@hidrokarbone @_itenoir the problem with empiricism (and this has been hotly debated from the readings we've been given) is that it implies there is one single truth that can and should be obtained obviously this is always the case for natural sciences where there are strict laws of nature…

Makan Binals!@epicurina

Unpopular opinion: Kuliner daging Indonesia paling oke itu justru yang pakai bahan secondary cuts, atau jeroan: Rendang (Gandik), Rawon (Sandung Lamur), Babat Gongso, Tumpang Koyor (Otot), Konro Bakar (Short ribs), Soto Madura (Jeroan), Sate Padang (Lidah).

@lenin_ka_pota @_itenoir Exactly my point. Unless there's a counterpoint to that, like maybe proofs of terms e.g. capitalism and colonialism are still being used in its specific enough context that they resist the notion the original tweet is trying to say.

@kohno_14 @_itenoir I feel that any concept this grand, to have seeped into every facet of our lives and having evolved with them, is bound to expand and complicate within social discourse. It’s hard to gauge the exact context people use them in micro-sized content like tweets, reels, etc

What I learnt at school in Indonesia 🇮🇩 - Soeharto I - Soeharto II - Soeharto III - Indonesia history (Romanticizing our rich historical awesomeness) - Stability is everything, even at the cost of economy and democracy - Pancasila = good - Communism = bad I’m not exaggerating.
When the everywhere-eye asks you...@Etoilealisme

What I learnt at school in South Korea🇰🇷: - Misogyny I - Misogyny II - Misogyny III - Korean history (America saved us) - Economy is everything, Democracy doesn’t matter - Capitalism = good - Communism = bad I’m not exaggerating.

There is no such place as Austronesia. There wasn't even such a thing as Austronesian identity. It was adopted by ethno-nationalists online in the 2000s and became more common after 2010 when they thought it seemed like a more "academic" alternative to just calling everyone Malay
