There is a deeply disturbing financial sickness spreading among Gen Z right now. At 23, they don’t want to build an empire. They just want to retire. I ask many to learn a high income skill, start a small cash flow business or take a career risk and they have zero interest. They are completely exhausted by the idea of actual work. But ask them about their monthly SIP, their crypto portfolio, and their passive income strategy, and they will talk for hours. A massive salute to the Indian Mutual Fund industry. You have executed the greatest marketing campaign in history. You successfully sold an entire generation the Dal Roti dream. You convinced ambitious 22 year olds that the ultimate goal of human existence is to scrape together a ₹3 to ₹5 Crore portfolio by 40, quit the rat race and exist off dividends while doing absolutely nothing. You cannot compound peanuts. Passive income is what you build after you have maximized your active income. But this generation is trying to skip the active income phase entirely. They are obsessing over squeezing a 15% CAGR out of a ₹40,000 salary instead of figuring out how to build a skill or a business that generates ₹4,00,000 a month. You cannot passive income your way out of a low value skill set. You cannot SIP your way to true wealth if your primary engine your active income is stagnant. Stop trying to retire before you have even built anything.

When you feel pressured, you have more time than you think you do. When you feel no pressure at all, you are probably running out of time.

George Orwell worried that a shrinking vocabulary would eventually produce a shrinking range of thought. It is difficult to think a nuanced thought with a blunt language.

People don’t actually believe you can learn subjects by reading books anymore. The popular model of learning is ‘learning by doing’ and video is second hand ‘learning by doing‘. Software developers (the first illiterate technical class) pioneered this worldview.

To develop deep intuitions in any domain, you have to go through the grind and the struggle of using your brain. You really can’t outsource understanding as the whole point of it is to develop and evolve a highly *personal* web of belief about how a domain works.

Racism was put under severe pressure which improved its quality by removing many impurities, as it ascends it will worsen in quality until once again only idiots embrace it. The trick is to have the right view at each apogee so you are maximally racist and anti-racist as occasion demands. I've already started taking an interest in black girls in preparation for the next turning of the wheel.

These videos of twenty-something-year-olds staring blankly into the camera, reciting obvious& unimpressive thoughts in a performative monotone wouldn’t exist if they instead sat in front of a mirror, pretending to be interviewed, realizing mid-sentence how uninteresting they are

Christopher McCandless is unfairly criticized as selfish or dismissed as someone with a death wish. Whatever his flaws or mistakes, his decision to leave everything behind and venture into the wilderness was driven by a genuine desire to live deliberately and authentically. He paid the ultimate price - but don't we all pay a price for the lives we choose, even if the bill comes due much later? The mountains, the forests, and the wild do not forgive illusions - but neither do ordinary lives lived without conviction.

I think part of what makes this account’s work so satisfying is they are doing a form of pattern recognition that is computerlike in many ways but actually requires a soul to pull off. Proof humans are still on top

Amazon India hires you with 28 LPA. Sounds great. Then PIP comes. My teammate got PIP'd for low performance. He was working 14 hours a day. PIP didn't save him. Amazon PIP is just Paid Interview Preparation. They give you 30 days to find a new job. He left and joined a startup. Never been happier. Amazon is a cult.
