Multiple times, @michaeljknowles said I called my wife a whore in my post (as did @benshapiro), even though I wrote "My wife was formerly promiscuous." To my surprise, upon checking the original video, the top comments are now overwhelmingly condemning their response to our story of God's redemption (screenshot below). Michael is now doubling-down on it on X by saying that me writing that she was formerly promiscuous is the same as calling her a whore (pic attached). Here's the three primary issues with them saying I called my wife a whore, and why Michael's argument is wrong. 1. It isn't true. I never used the word "whore," so he shouldn't be telling people I called my wife this. 2. We instinctively know that "she was formerly promiscuous" carries with it much more grace than "she's a whore," because "promiscuous" is an adjective describing her past, whereas "whore" is a degrading noun, a slur used to speak harshly of women. They're similar words, but different in meaning and intent. They are not the same. 3. Crucially, they spoke in the present tense: "He called her a whore" (implying this is a present-tense sin issue, something she still is). I spoke in the past tense: "My wife was formerly promiscuous." This tense difference matters immensely, especially when people greatly struggle to separate one's life before Christ from their life after Christ. The world can't fathom that such change can happen. But the Bible is clear: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come!" (1 Cor. 5:17). Or consider Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me." That old Ashley is dead. It's because of these truths that my wife and I choose to boldly, confidently, and without giving loads of explicit details, share the sins that stained us before Christ with others (for I am indeed a great sinner and struggle in many ways, too). Our story isn't shared frequently, but at times and when fitting, so that other believers can be encouraged, other sinners can be given hope of redemption and forgiveness, and the lost can hear the good news of the gospel: that though all are headed for Hell for their sins (1 Cor. 6:9-10), anyone who repents and places their trust in the resurrected Christ will be saved (John 3:16, 18). Regardless of how much you've sinned, you can't out-sin the mercy of God. You can be washed clean, your shame and guilt removed, and you can have a brand-new identity in Jesus Christ (Titus 3:5-6). And we’re living proof of this! I have no ill will against Michael, Ben, @andrewklavan, or anyone else for their remarks and mocking, nor do I demand an apology. I forgive them. My greatest desire for them and anyone who's following this story, as well as God's, is for them to "be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Tim. 2:4).

My take on the current discourse about the Christian man with the formerly “promiscuous” wife is that many of the comments towards the man and his wife have been uncharitable, cruel, and certainly un-Christian, but also that Christians these days often tend to be far too eager to tell the entire world about their past sins, which in most cases shows a lack of discretion and a certain lack of the sort of shame one should feel even for repented sins. Also, as a parent, I strongly believe that you generally should avoid telling your kids about your own wayward youth, because the kids will take such stories as an indication that they too can go off and have fun sinning and things will turn out okay, just as they did for you. Also you undermine your own moral authority when you instruct your children not to do the very things you have admitted to having done yourself. Finally, the man’s line about how his wife “is more pure than most virgins” is prideful and shows a kind of competitiveness and vanity that should simply not ever appear in any Prodigal Son style testimony. Imagine if the Prodigal Son had returned and announced himself not only repentant but “more pure” than the brother who stayed? It would kind of destroy the point of the story. So in summary I basically disagree with everyone on this.

@lilyally98 The difference here is, throughout history, there have been VERY FEW men who were millionaires b4 marriage (adjusted for inflation). In stark contrast, vast majority of women were virgins as recently as mid 1960’s Foolish comparison that hides the shit quality of modern women.

Young women, it’s completely normal and natural to want a husband who is a millionaire. He should be able to completely take care of everything in your life. Don’t let them convince you it isn’t.

The reason women test men is that men are incentivized to lie. When they want sex, they'll lie about wanting commitment. When they want commitment, they'll lie about preferences and how your life together will look. The only way to know the difference between empty words and the truth is observing his actions when he's put in a position where he has to show his hand. If it doesn't happen naturally, she has to test him.

@HirukaCh @RealDianeYap It boils down to hypocrisy. Paying full price for something that was given away for free. It doesn’t matter what the guys mentality is, they won’t like that at all. The root cause of their frustration cannot be blamed on men, it is squarely at the feet of the woman who whored.

That mindset just tells me he jumps into the first opportunity to get laid instead of being self-disciplined. And a woman having slept with someone else before (which doesn’t mean she’s been “whoring around”) doesn’t erase her consent. It gives me a heads up of what a ltr with him would be like.

@HirukaCh @RealDianeYap The same thing goes in reverse. Some of the basic preferences women have in men I’m not a fan of. However, I acknowledge that, if I want to date, I’m going to have to mostly accept them bc they aren’t going to change. You need to do the same, know your customer.

Tbh I haven’t dated in the past, but I thought what you described was the “normal” until I saw all the discourse about it online. All that said, I wouldn’t date a guy who gets upset if a non-virgin woman doesn’t want to sleep with him on the first few dates (I’m a virgin, just don’t like that mindset).

This is exactly the point. Parents somehow don’t understand this. But they were once children and they should know how children think. If your life is currently a total mess and you’re a pathetic loser and you want to tell your kids about your past indiscretions as a kind of cautionary tale, then okay maybe there could be some value there. But if you are happy, well off, and living well, then all your kids will hear when you tell them about your wayward youth is: “Hey kids, you can be a selfish asshole now and things will work out fine, just like they did for me!” That’s not what you want them to hear. But it’s what they will hear. So keep it to yourself. Nobody needs to hear your reminisces about the bad old days. Move on.

@HirukaCh @RealDianeYap If u do that and have consistently done that in the past (no hypocrisy), men that call you a “gold digger” just want sex and nothing else. Also easy to pick up on if they have issues (example: no job, too much booze, anger issues) if u spend more time b4 sex. Not rocket science.
