Did you know? The Arctic fox is a seasonal fashionista. During winter, it sports a dense coat of white fur that helps insulate it from the cold, and it can withstand temperatures of up to −90°F (-67.8°C)!

Son of a nutcracker! Clark’s nutcrackers use their dagger-like bills to rip into pinecones and pull out large seeds, which they stash in a pouch under their tongue before flying off to bury them for winter. Photo by Anindita Sarkar

A 3-hour train ride yesterday to the end of Long Island to see my #lifer Cassin's sparrow in Montauk Point. It's the 2nd NY state record as this bird inhabits the arid grasslands of southwest US & Mexico. It was foraging when I saw it but did some wing stretching. #cassinssparrow

The contrasting colors of the yellow cottonwoods and red sandstone canyons at Canyon de Chelly National Monument are especially striking during fall, made even more dramatic by an early snowfall. Photo by Nina Mayer Ritchie

An early morning visit to Prospect Park to see the varied thrush. They're a year-round resident of the Pacific Northwest but this one is currently visiting Kings county. #variedthrush #birds

Welcome back to “Moms Who Build Tiny Homes and Kidnap Caterpillars.” Today’s episode: the fraternal potter wasp. This architectural icon crafts miniature mud pots using just soil and spit. Once the pot is complete, she lays a single egg inside.

Friday fun fact. An average catch for a puffin is around 10 fish. According to the Audubon, the record catch is held by an Atlantic puffin in Britain -- 62 fish! British puffins are built different. Photo of a tufted puffin by Robin Corcoran/USFWS

We heard you liked furry bee butts - is it true? The northern amber bumble bee can be found from Montana to Maine. Watch for them visiting a variety of plants, including milkvetches, thistles, goldenrods & clovers. This one was enjoying common milkweed! 📷 Courtney Celley/USFWS
