Your argument was you insinuating that saving money somewhat hinders an individual from enjoying their life, it’s still up there incase you’ve forgotten what you said. And my response is, one can still do that without the need for spending money, and even if you die in the process of saving money, your financial responsibilities shall still remain, which is true. Only a poor man thinks you need money to enjoy the best moments of life. Yes, money can help but it’s only a tool. If you define “living life” by how much you spend, the kind of holidays you take, or the cars you drive, you’ll never find true happiness. And if you die tomorrow, at least you can still afford your own funeral and not leave your loved ones in debt after your death.

@AThe__Master Honestly, I’ve not had a chance to give this the attention it deserves, I’ve been too busy throughout the build process of the house, but I will have a look into this and potentially get a rebate.

I’ve paid £3200 council tax for a year on a house I demolished to build again and is currently unoccupied. I asked the council for some sort of discount as the house is literally not habitable and they said tough.

I was chatting with a friend who’s saved well into the multiple six figures, and he was telling me how much money he has. I said, “Bro, £100k - £300k for just you and your partner isn’t the same as £100k -£300k when it’s you, your partner, and multiple kids.” What feels like a lot can quickly change when you start factoring in things like private school fees, multiple holidays, a bigger family car & home, and everything else that comes with it. Don’t mistake you being ahead as the race being over, stay focused!

Tbh i built the house in a way that allows me to add certain features in the future, such as an EV charger, even though I don’t own an EV, multiple cctv, hard wired door bells with cat6 cable incase I want a more advanced door bell, or possibly a smart front door then the cables are already in place. And I’m glad I did that because now I see the need for solar power more than ever given the energy crisis that is inevitably coming.

Seriously considering investing in the solar panels & battery I deferred last year now. I may get the Tesla power wall so I can take advantage of off peak charging & defer the panels…

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but at some stage in your life, you will feel a strong urge to build your own house. It is very important that you either set aside or have access to 3x the budget you’ve allocated for the project before you pursue that dream. Otherwise, you may not make it out in one piece.

I just calculated how much mortgage i’ve paid in the past 12 months for an empty house….. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
