87% of 40-year-olds in 2000 had married. They did their dating in the 80s and 90s, after the cultural revolution but before swipe apps.
If 85% of women only wanted the top 15% of men, that marriage rate would be mathematically impossible. The pattern is a dating app artifact, not female nature.
