For haematological cancers in Egyptian children, the leading cause of death was infection, not the cancer itself. For solid tumors, infection was the second leading cause of death. Treating cancer requires tools to prevent and treat infection as well. tinyurl.com/yh6yn6zm

The UN will soon unveil a new global science panel on #AMR - what can we do to make it effective and efficient? See the great papers from our conference in Lagos earlier this year: cgdev.org/project/buildi…

@G17Esiason Gunnar, thanks for reminding us about the importance of our community pharmacists, being killed by PBMs. Also terrified that your last line treatment is still colistin. We’re working on better antibiotics for patients, but it takes time, money, science, and hard work.

When I was younger, I used to get most of my (non-specialty) CF meds from a local mom and pop pharmacy in Manhasset. They used to keep an inhaled off-label antibiotic (injectable colistin, though we used to just dilute and then squirt it into nebulizer cups for inhalation) on hand in case I ever got sick. At first sign of pulmonary exacerbation, we’d fill it and start same day even if the prior auth took a few days to complete. Starting treatment so quickly used to save me from needing to get a PICC line placed and going on a round of IV antibiotics. Today it’s basically impossible to have a similar set up. I can only get the drug from mail order pharmacy and it typically takes several business days to process and ship. Fortunately I’m not as sick as I once was, but every time I fill colistin, I can’t help but remember how easy it used to be.

In 1992 Peter Ratcliffe received this rejection letter from Nature. His findings were not "a sufficient advance in our understanding". 27 years later he won the Nobel Prize for the same discovery. Don't lose faith in the things you believe in.

These are the small companies and research groups @CARB_X supports at global scale. Not one or two, but dozens at a time. They need both money and scientific, business, and technical help turning ideas into products
Valeria Gigante@valeria_gigante

Do you know who is leading AMR research today? ▶ 93% of clinical R&D is lead by small companies ▶ 86.7% of preclinical R&D too! Small companies and biotech are at the forefront of antibacterial development. 👉 Read more here who.int/publications/i…

My heart breaks for the victim and his loved ones — no one should die while cycling on our streets — especially when they are on a sidewalk. We need more infrastructure improvements in the short-, medium-, and long-term, along with stronger traffic enforcement.

While this location isn’t in the legislative district I represent, I’ve also been engaged with my colleagues, including Sen. Brownsberger and Leader Mike Moran, to push @MassDCR to make badly-needed improvements to this stretch of Memorial Dr. Today, I followed up with DCR again.

Yesterday I had the honour of chairing a patient panel at the @CARB_X Product Developer Conference in Portugal which featured my fellow #AntimicrobialResistance patient advocates Pernilla Rönnholm from @PrematurMirakel and Leticia de Oliveira Batista from Reabilita Sepse Project (Brazil) The event had a special focus on accelerating innovation to tackle AMR Including the perspectives of patients, carers and survivors is crucial to designing solutions that keep their needs at the centre #theAMRnarrative #AMR #PatientCentricity #PatientEngagement
