The discourse will always be structurally negative on LLMs because discourse actors are necessarily from the tiny sliver of the population that enjoys writing and is (compared to the population as a whole) good at it. Many people despise writing and love that a machine can do it

the single greatest thing you can do for your sanity is to take life seriously. we live in a profoundly irony-poisoned society and you cut off 1/100th of what life can offer you by being a goofball. the jester may be near the king but he does not sit at the hand of the father

Brief thoughts on this weak piece of propaganda peddled by pro-Beijing talking heads:

I have to say, there's something immensely ironic about the Dalai Lama arguing his reincarnation should be determined by a tax-exempt Swiss foundation incorporated in Zurich (dalailamafoundation.org/who-we-are/the…), while Beijing insists on maintaining the traditional centuries-old Golden Urn selection process. And the even bigger irony is that everyone will doubtlessly denounce China for "destroying Tibetan traditions and culture" for doing so.

A new #1 in my fancy Indian food ranking! 1) Ambassadors Clubhouse (London) 2) Ettan (Palo Alto) 2 (tie) Semma (NYC) 3) Bungalow (NYC) 4) Dhamaka (NYC) 5) Rooh (SF) 6) Thali (Cape Town) Ones I would not eat at again: Indian Accent (Delhi) Gaggan (Bangkok) Copra (SF) Tiya (SF) Campton Place (SF) Honorable mention: Ekaa (Bombay) is very good but not really Indian food by my definition (even though they claim it is) RIP August 1 Five (SF), gone from this world too soon. There are many other really good ones that aren’t fancy enough for this list like Bombay Canteen (Bombay) and Besharam (SF)

Please tell me if I'm misunderstanding, but I think JP's belief system is that if you believe in objective truth, and as a result you only want to lie in bed or kill yourself, then the objective truth is useless to you and the fact that it is "true" has no value. 1/3

One reason Jordan Peterson is so poor at reasoning is he's surrounded by sycophants who don't give him feedback on his extremely flawed arguments. Here's what happens when he tests his ideas against someone who isn't in his close circle of salad brained pseudointellectuals

In 2006, we set out on an unusual journey—to sing Muttusvami Dikshitar’s compositions as notated by Subbarama Dikshitar in his monumental Sangita Sampradaya Pradarshini, 100 years after the scholar’s passing. For the first time in Karnatik music history, every nuance—every gamaka, movement, and pause was captured in descriptive notation by Subbarama Dikshitar. With R.K. Shriramkumar and Dr. R.S. Jayalakshmi, we audio archived 60 such compositions. Now, on the occasion of Muttusvami Dikshitar’s 250th birth anniversary year, we are sharing them on my YouTube channel—glimpses of a Karnatik sound from about 130 years ago.

@kevinroose This may be true, but I also find a worrying lack of serious engagement with the environmental costs of AI among the "quality AI discourse" types. Quality discourse can't silo off discussions of those externalities.

There are a lot of problems with this platform, but the quality of AI discourse here is still 100x better than Bl**sky, which is awash in “every ChatGPT query bulldozes an acre of rainforest” level takes.

🚨ANDREW SCHULZ: "I understand that Elon is antagonizing people and rubbing people the wrong way and you don't like him, and there are things to criticize, nobody is above criticism, but to punish that car company that is 100% made in America by Americans, who rely on those jobs, maybe we criticize another thing. What is your goal? That we shut down those factories and those Americans lose their jobs? That makes you feel better abut your gripe with Elon? There are people that rely on those jobs."

@tedgioia A lot of great classic albums in the replies but electric and fusion jazz albums can be a great gateway for people who like other genres. Mahavishnu Orchestra's Birds of Fire and Scofield Medeski Martin Wood's A Go Go turned me from a rock fan into a jazz fan.

@iamjohnoliver Missed opportunity to address the support and funding the Indian right wing gets from Indian Americans. There was a bulldozer used in a 2022 rally in Edison, NJ. Your audience is primarily Americans, don't ignore how Americans fuel right wing governments abroad.
