theprisonshow.square.site The Prison Show is a weekly, non-profit radio program based in Houston, Texas, that broadcasts messages from family and friends to incarcerated loved ones. It is a volunteer-run organization that operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit and relies on donations for its operational costs. The Prison Show was founded in 1980 by activist Ray Hill, the show connects Texas prison inmates with their friends and family on the outside. Staffed by volunteers, including ex-offenders, teachers, and activists, the show aims to shed light on the problems within the current prison system. The Prison Show airs weekly on KPFT 90.1 FM in Houston and is also available for streaming online at kpft.org. A Live Video is broadcast on Facebook Live, and then uploaded to your favorite podcast platform, and YouTube. To reach incarcerated people beyond the range of radio waves, The Prison Show uploads content to the Edovo app, which is available on tablets inside correctional facilities in 45 states @ 900,000 inmates. This allows inmates to listen to the show for free. Every unit in Texas can now watch/listen using their tablets on the Edovo App. We have had 306,061 views on the tablets this year alone. The first hour is dedicated to discussing criminal justice issues. The second hour features personal "shout-outs" from family members to their incarcerated relatives. The Prison Show was influential in lobbying the Texas Legislature to install payphones for inmates in 2007, a reform that made Texas the last state to do so.
