I hope nobody is under any illusions about how Donald Trump’s brilliant diplomacy in “navigating the ongoing conflict” over the past year and a half has absolutely doomed any realistic prospect of ending this war through a diplomatic compromise.
By cutting off aid to Ukraine, blackmailing it, twisting its arms, and openly aligning himself with the aggressor, Trump has done more than anyone else to convince Putin that he should stop at nothing and continue the war until he achieves his maximalist goals of destroying Ukraine.
So there you have it -- everything that Trump’s untied hands have achieved.

This evening I voted against The Ukraine Support Act. While I am supportive of lethal aid so the Ukrainian people can defend themselves and put an end to this war, this legislation ties President Trump’s hands in navigating the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. More importantly it does not account for the current state of play in the conflict as it was introduced over a year ago. The failure to bring this up through regular order, prevented the House from being able to amend and debate the bill. The bottom line: no one is winning this war and no side is in a more advantageous position than they were 5 years ago when this began. Ukrainians need access to the tools to defend their country and this bill does not do that.

Radio Free Europe isn’t a Cold War relic. It’s $250 million for soft power infrastructure in a region where we’re actively losing the information war to Russia and China. Cutting it now is what losing looks like.
Pax Americana kept us wealthy and made the world more prosperous than any previous hegemony. Soft power maintained that. Walking away from soft power is walking away from the order that made America what it is.

🇩🇪 Engines from the German company MAN continue to arrive in Russia, an investigation by the Dossier Center and the Süddeutsche Zeitung has shown.
They are supplied to Russia via a Turkish company, where they are installed on the Sobol border boats.
The Turkish company does not indicate Russia as the final buyer, so the manufacturer may not know where the products are going, but experts say that without engineers from the manufacturing company, the engines cannot be installed on Russian boats.

I do feel for the Russians. There is a deep sadness. Russia is part of Europe. Their history and literature is embedded in the cannon of Western art. Putin is sad. Medvedev is becoming psychotic. Dugin is going crazy. And they speak for the Russians I meet in Moscow. They are sad that Europe wants to reject them. They don't want to escalate. Because they are European. But the incomentant British Foreign Office. And EU commision are pushing them to do so. I love Paris. I love Rome. I love Moscow. I was born in the most beautiful European city of all. Edinburgh. In Scotland. It breaks my heart to see whats happening to Europe now. Two world wars. And they still don't get it. Great power wars in Europe. Only brings ruin to us all.
