When Steam was released video game piracy went down massively. When Spotify was released music piracy went down massively. Piracy is and will always be a service issue. Provide people a legal, convenient, accessible alternative if you don't want them to pirate.

@kriputon @Regris_Kallen This part I mentioned is plaguing streaming services overall, not just on Anime, mind you. Netflix is notorious for removing movies and shows but not the only one doing it.

Considering the discussion of piracy that's happening, I wonder how a lot of Japanese would feel knowing that the biggest distributor of anime overseas currently was originally a piracy website 🤔

@kriputon the problem ive seen constantly on that discussion is most japanese people say "stealing is bad" but piracy has much more nuance to be considered just stealing i dont know if twitter is fucking with translation or if the word stealing has that much weight in japanese

@leoozitos @WeirdHimejin すまないね、実際に会ったことなんだ。 モーレツ宇宙海賊のためにU-NEXTに入ったよ。 ケーブルテレビはいい例えだね。日本だとNHKに金を払うことになるから、私はめんどくさくてテレビを買わなかったよ。 ネットとサブスクがあれば生きていけるからね。

@leoozitos @WeirdHimejin 確かにマシかもね。 日本語以外の言語の人が日本語を学ぶのが難しいように、日本語話者の自分も英語を学ぶのが難しかったりするんだ。英語のゲームとかはGoogle翻訳でどうにかするんだけど、それが画面に合ってない事があるから困ることがあるけど、あなたのそれと同じで、翻訳ができるだけマシなんだ

@kriputon @WeirdHimejin here in brazil we have a bunch of people that speak japanese is really rare to not have a portuguese translation maby to really niche things could be hard also has the people that take the fan english translation and translate to Portuguese not the best option but better than not

@leoozitos @WeirdHimejin 私も時々Google翻訳に投げてるよ。 公式の翻訳が酷い問題も他の人から聞いたな。アニメや漫画翻訳専用のAIでも出てくれれば翻訳者個人の主義主張で捻じ曲げられるとか翻訳者の能力が低くてダメな翻訳になる問題は多少マシになると思うんだ。 本当は翻訳者の仕事を取る形になるからダメなんだけどね。

@leoozitos @WeirdHimejin ネットフリックスの値上げ問題かぁ、企業系はサービス独占すると逆に気持ちが良いぐらい値段が上がるからなぁ。 あと、日本は平和ボケというか戦争とか治安の悪化で国が滅茶苦茶になる想定はしてないかな。 あとは円盤の手に入りやすさが違いすぎるからそこも価値観の違いになってるみたいだね。

@kriputon @Regris_Kallen It should be but unfortunately they remove anime due to licensing expiration from their platform after a while, which only fuels piracy of those delisted anime again then there's the editing Crunchyroll sometimes does on anime they deem problematic, making people look for fansubs
