How does the influenza polymerase balance mRNA transcription and viral genome replication? Read our new pre-print: “The host RNA polymerase II C-terminal domain is the anchor for replication of the influenza virus genome”! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… More detailed description below:

@DrNeilStone LOL, of all RNA viruses I can think of only influenza has any business in the nucleus. Most of the other ones - including hantaviruses - replicate in the cytoplasm. I recommend Fields Virology to Mary. It is helpful to understand the basics.

A research team from the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, Institut Pasteur, and EMBL has shown in a Nature paper how the influenza polymerase, a molecular thief, uses the host RNA to replicate. Check out the MPI press release: mpinat.mpg.de/5179649/pr_2604

I’m excited to share our latest research from @musser_lab , published today in @Nature. Using two-color 3D MINFLUX, we directly visualized nuclear import and export events through transport-active nuclear pores. nature.com/articles/s4158…

I’m pleased to share that we FINALLY submitted our latest manuscript on SARS-CoV-2 cryptic lineages and what they tell us about the origins of COVID-19. This was a ton of work. medrxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… 1/

Frankfurt is one of the most inefficient and unfriendly airports I have visited so far. Usually an unpleasant experience and no exception today.

Across France, people have taken to the streets to protest against road rage, after a car driver intentionally killed a cyclist last week. In 1973, protests in the Netherlands sparked a 50-year long Dutch focus on traffic safety for cyclists.

The plot thickens: @CDCgov says a close contact of the Missouri #H5 #birdflu case was sick at the same time but wasn't tested. Not clear why that info wasn't shared Thurs during an hour-long press briefing when CDC said Missouri was looking like a "one-off" case. statnews.com/2024/09/13/h5n…
