CR Patil was involved in a major scam during peak of COVID too in April 2021. As BJP state president, he procured 5000 vials of Remdesivir injections illegally from Zydus Cadila to allegedly distribute in Surat while there was an acute shortage of the drug everywhere. The official cost of Remdesivir was Rs 2800 slashed to Rs 899 by Zydus per govt orders. Other suppliers like Cipla, Hetero and Dr Reddy’s charged up to Rs 5400 before govt cap came into effect. Acute shortage of Remdesivir raised black market prices as high as Rs 50,000 per vial when Patil cornered huge stock of 5000 vials allegedly at the cost of Rs 50 lakhs (you can multiply black market prices) Huge controversy erupted at the time both about cornering huge stock as well as violation of drug act whereby only hospitals and pharmacies were allowed to sell-distribute drugs. A PIL was filed in Gujarat HC challenging Patil’s claim of private distribution of Remdesivir from BJP office. Gujarat govt very quickly issued clean chit to Patil which was accepted by HC without investigation (not surprising).

It is extremely difficult to dislodge TMC from Bengal. Bengal had 27% Muslims in 2011, now it may be anywhere between 32–35%. They all vote for TMC. Imagine going into a fight where you need 51% to win, and 32–35% is already in your kitty. The remaining 65–68% are divided. Some vote for TMC for its socialist policies, some out of fear of repercussions if they don’t, some belong to a self-proclaimed intellectual class whose sole identity is hating BJP, and some older voters remain loyal to the communists, effectively splitting the vote. So, BJP winning Bengal would be nothing short of a miracle. I hope it happens.
