@TaliaRinger I had babies at 29 and 33, moved universities at 30, tenured at 34. My advice is to live the life you want and not preemptively predict the impact on the tenure situation. My spouse and I take on more/less of the household stuff based on the cadence of our work schedules.

How do people who have babies pre-tenure balance everything? My hope is to get my students pretty independent, not recruit for a couple of years, and have a baby, then recruit again when those students are senior but not yet graduated

@HilaCodes @heathercmiller @clegoues Appliqué might fit the bill here. Cut shapes from fabric. Hand stitch onto other fabric (or machine blanket stitch if yours is fancy). Make pillows.

@clegoues @TaliaRinger @chrisparnin for the ICSE in question, I did not find the childcare options to be of practical value. It was the parent's responsibility to find a local, trustworthy childcare provider. The reimbursement was too small to bother with. So, my spouse was childcare.

@TaliaRinger @kstolee @chrisparnin Childcare --> including travel for the children and support people, and/or childcare at the conference. I mention this first because it's not widely known, and second because I obvi don't know if SIGPLAN does the same, but perhaps it could.

I do wonder what single parents do about in-person conferences. Like if this is me in a couple of years, can I bring my child? At least for the hallway track, which is what I go for anyways, and then we can hang in the hotel room? It'd be cool if conferences had childcare options
