New data shows that New York’s grid operators are leaning more heavily than ever on emergency tools—known as Emergency Operating Procedures—to keep the lights on. Learn more ➡️ nyiso.com/-/emergency-to…

@ziontree I appreciate hearing books in the author’s own voice. I have ADHD, so I tend to get more from an audiobook than a printed text. I miss graphics. It’s hard to tell when hearing something whether it’s a statement or a chapter title/heading. Any cues help.

Do I know any authors who have recorded an audiobook? Was it worthwhile? It seems laborious, but I’d prefer to do it in my own voice than have AI do it. How about people who listen to them? Appreciate any tips/thoughts.

Hi! I’m Zi. I turn complex ideas into stories that people can use. It’s not just guesswork - I have an MSc in Science Communication, so I apply what I’ve learned works. If you’re a fellow human, say “hi” so I know I’m not just broadcasting into the algorithmic abyss.

Sadly, every time they cut down 100s of acres of forest to pave the earth with ineffective industrial solar facilities they reduce carbon sequestration and displace Mother Earth's wildlife.

We opened with @FoxGGreen’s film Energy/Empire, tracing how NY went from JFK/RFK’s pro-development vision… to RFK Jr. and Andrew Cuomo shutting down major clean power sources and fast-tracking extremely flawed infrastructure.

Our recent New York Energy Alliance event in Kingston told a very different story than the political statements flying around this week about “affordability” and “climate goals.” What’s actually happening in the Hudson Valley is much more concrete, and much more urgent.

@NYEnergyAllies Ulster County chooses solar? Wrong. One piddling 30-MW solar plant is listed in the NYISO interconnection queue. Some upstate counties are getting over 1,000 MW of solar PLUS wind. Ulster Co. knows it will never have to host a single 2,000-acre solar project.

Great conversation after Fox Green’s film screening last night. We shared this handout to ground the debate in real numbers: replacing 1 GW of nuclear takes massive land use, billions in costs, and dozens of Hudson River School-worthy viewsheds destroyed. We deserve better.

Last night in Kingston, NY, we screened Energy/Empire and held a panel discussion with local leaders who refuse to bow to the suicidal energy mandates coming from Albany. The panel included voices from the IBEW and working-class residents. A massive success!

@NYEnergyAllies Or call “renewables” “zero-emissions.” I agree they should be in the same category, since “renewables” are not particularly renewable.

SHOULD NEW YORK CLASSIFY NUCLEAR POWER AS RENEWABLE? The Zero Emission Credits program was created by Andrew Cuomo in 2016 to keep vital upstate nuclear power plants running. It's now up for renewal. New York faces rising energy costs, declining grid reliability, and a flawed climate law that was written for headlines instead of households. Is it time to stop discriminating against nuclear energy, and roll it into the wider renewable framework so it can benefit from already existing programs? Why not just call nuclear renewable?

My latest Substack post. Solar developers will tell you it’s better for carbon emissions to cut down trees and install panels. Are they right? (Click on the link, not the photo) open.substack.com/pub/ksvsm/p/so…

@NYFarmer Correction: the project was opposed, NOT stopped. It’s being sited under state mandate (Art. 8 of the Public Service Law), so this opposition is largely irrelevant. I’ve seen farmers on both sides of these projects claim they’ll go under.

@NYEnergyAllies Do I sense Delgado is testing the waters for a run against Hochul, should her popularity wane?

This is a desperate cry for help by Delgado. The call for 15 GW of solar and wind by 2030 is completely unserious. It's not 2019 anymore. Andrew Cuomo isn't planning to run for president. The CLCPA was not a serious plan. We need reliable 24/7 energy, not kwh on a spreadsheet.
Lt. Governor Antonio Delgado@DelgadoforNY

NY must own our clean energy. 15 GW by 2030 — not 3 or 6 — to hit climate goals, create jobs, and lower costs. I’ve made my comment. Join me! publiccomments.nypa.gov/form

@nuclearny And pretty much the only option left for lowering downstate emissions. Renewable buildout upstate is slow and lacks transmission support, the Champlain-Hudson power line won’t help winter generation, and offshore wind projects are looking iffier every day.

A 38-acre solar plant in Castleton NY (just south of Albany) burned overnight. Years ago, solar developers ridiculed me for asking about fires on solar sites. They denied that such fires were possible, or that panels would be damaged by them. wnyt.com/top-stories/cr…

@JamesMelville @ClimateRealists Personally I believe there’s a problem, but this piece is from 2016. Other studies have both contradicted and confirmed its conclusions since then. We need more research.

@lbruning2 @NYSComptroller After assessing the data, I must conclude that either 1) significant numbers of solar projects have stopped generating electricity or 2) these projects are operating but are failing to report what they generate. Neither situation is acceptable.

@NYSComptroller How is the state tracking projects that fail to operate or cease operation? According to NYS the Onyx Solar located at 664 Alexander Road, Delanson, Schenectady County, NY appears to have stopped generation April 2022. It may have operated for only 4 years.

@lbruning2 @PolicyEngineer The article infers that the determination of the earlier on-lake turbine study were definitive. Hochul has very publicly directed a group to reassess the earlier study’s conclusions. Lots of changes since then, including the way we build out new transmission for renewables.
