This is not a good defense of the veneration of saints. The best defense of the veneration of saints is that God has willed not to be known apart from his saints. The Word of God has elected to be known as none other than the Son of Mary.
john milbank@johnmilbank3

Pagans were sort of right to pray mainly to gods and not to the supreme deity. Our prayers to divine agents for special interventions must logically be to angels and saints who inhabit an elevated duration. Prayer to God is for unity with him and to channel his ultimate power.

Election in the Bible is never just for the sake of the elect. Priests are chosen for the sake of God’s people. God’s people are chosen for the sake of the nations. I think if we kept that in mind it might change the way we think and talk about the doctrine of election.

@kisstheblade_ I think Anglo-Catholicism is mostly just a liturgical style.

Anglo-catholicism means taking the most retrograde, the most prejudiced protestant slander of Catholics - like the accusation that veneration of the saints is a type of polytheism - and going "that sounds cool, we should do that".

@kt4me @IustusEt Your perverted desire for unnatural sex is just as morally bankrupt as the other unnatural acts that seek the same end results.

@LazarusGet26934 @IustusEt the problem with those people isn’t whether they affirm the truthful proposition that sex for pleasure is natural, it’s actually that they r*pe people for pleasure.

@kt4me @IustusEt Your object of obsession is literally the human sewer hole. What more could God have done to make it obvious to you perverts that that germ-laden hole of smelly excrement is an exit only?

@LazarusGet26934 @IustusEt The point of ass-sex is not to create new life. It’s to make your bf cum hands free. How can ass-sex fail to do something that the people having ass-sex aren’t trying to do?

@IustusEt Human dignity is found in the proper use of our human design in the image of our Creator. And the perverse mental attraction of men sexually craving other men is not part of our human design.

@JosephAlbrigo @LizzieMarbach How is this very true? Where are abortion and homosexuality given as reasons for the Babylonian exile? The two issues that the prophets gave for the exile were idolatry and injustice toward the poor. I don’t think homosexuality and abortion ever even come up.

@davidwmueller @maq_agricolas @purely_catholic @jasonwblakely The head of Jesus’s alleged one true church is in the video about saying that genocide is a more pressing issue than people playing with their wieners. I don’t think a normal person would need the pope to tell them that but luckily he’s here to help out anyway.

@kt4me @maq_agricolas @purely_catholic @jasonwblakely Can't prove anything until we get there. But that's a main point of Catholic Faith, that Jesus came to found a Church and He deposited all truth & grace that we need for salvation in that Church. That includes the Catholic sexual moral doctrine.

@kt4me @Justmoi90995439 @LGBTQPrideUK @bindelj Beautiful, isn't it? Closed adoptions left many with doubts and questions that bled into their lives, in some cases, quite damagingly so. Life isn't perfect. People aren't perfect. We do what we can with our fingers crossed.

I don't think men should ever raise children alone. For a number of reasons. And surrogacy is NEVER OK. *PS I do not mean men whose female partner has died*.

@LizzieMarbach @JosephAlbrigo But we aren’t talking about child sacrifice. Like with the case of male cult prostitutes, there seem to be important differences between abortion and child sacrifice. Issues of bodily autonomy and the ontological ambiguity of fetal life for example.

Ancient Israel practiced child sacrifice. God says explicitly in the prophets that their practice and tolerance of child sacrifice is why they are being exiled from the land. Also, not true that preborn babies were not treated as humans. They absolutely were. That's where the standard of "life for life" comes from.

@LizzieMarbach @JosephAlbrigo Causing a miscarriage is treated as property damage unless the mother dies. A fetus was not viewed as a full person.

@LizzieMarbach @JosephAlbrigo No sodomy in ancient Israel or Canaan (unless you mean male cult prostitutes which seems importantly different than what we’re talking about) and ancient Israelite law doesn’t treat a fetus as a full person.

@Maidinamerica3 @Justmoi90995439 @LGBTQPrideUK @bindelj Yes, that’s called an open adoption. Children can be happy and healthy even if their birth mom didn’t want to raise them or couldn’t. As long as they have adoptive parents and caregivers who give them unconditional love they can grow into flourishing adults.

@kt4me @Justmoi90995439 @LGBTQPrideUK @bindelj Children like that came to my family, where they were raised with love but still had their mums in their lives. Personal identity is deeply rooted in parentage and culture and where possible, a relationship is maintained.
