@yanisvaroufakis GPT4’s analysis of your advice: Trade surplus means Germany saves more than it invests at home. Instead of fueling local demand and higher wages, profits flow abroad. This export-led model suppresses domestic spending and investment, leading to stagnant growth. You agree?

A German industrialist asked me what I believed was the top insight German policy makers need to understand. My answer was: That running large external surpluses was not only compatible with your economy's stagnation but that they caused it too!

The writing of the current generation of LLMs is like Wonder Bread. Yes, it's technically bread. It's suitable for some uses. But no baker would be pleased to have made it, and no one who cares about bread would enjoy eating it.

@paulg As I read James Joyce, I’d agree it’s among the more intellectually challenging things I’ve done. Have you written an essay to explore the hardest subjects and why? What kind of math? Any fiction? Why not poetry or philosophy? Presumably writing fiction is harder than reading it?

@sama Math and fiction. Programming approaches math if you're doing something very pure. Essays are a bit easier than fiction because you don't have to keep making things up. Startups were easy enough that I could work all the time I wasn't eating or sleeping.

One possible solution to having less time to work after having kids: work on harder things. The hardest kinds of work can't be done for more than 4 or 5 hours a day anyway.

A better AI makes fewer mistakes. A better AGI makes *more* mistakes. And corrects some of them by creative and critical thinking. Or by creatively seeking out interactions with the world and thinking about those. Or sometimes by creatively thinking about what other people say.

Poorer children show cognitive fatigue faster than richer ones, and attend schools that give fewer chances to build attentional capacity. But this can be improved with simple changes at school--as we show in our Cognitive Endurance paper. Summary below! @christinalbrown @h_schof
