Every hour felt like it was slipping away from me. But I kept going. I reached Chennai on April 22nd at 8:30 PM completely exhausted, with my 3-year-old toddler. I had an option: take a 6:55 AM flight. But I chose an AC sleeper bus, hoping to get at least a few hours of rest. And that decision had changed everything..! But before I could even board… I almost missed it. Heavy traffic. Crowd everywhere. I was running with my trolley, trying to cross the road. I couldn’t. And then… the bus started moving. For a second, everything stopped for me. But I wasn’t alone. My brother and someone very close to me were running alongside me. My college friends were constantly checking on me. They downloaded my voter slip, kept a printed copy ready. At the same time, I asked my parents to bring the originals. Everyone was doing their part… to make sure I didn’t lose this moment. And then… At exactly 5:55 PM, I walked into my polling booth and I cast my vote. I was the last person. No, that wouldn’t have worked in my case. My passport has my husband’s surname, which doesn’t match the name on my booth slip. I did have my DL with the matching name, so I arranged a backup asked my friend to bring a downloaded voter slip. Eventually, my parents brought my voter ID and booth slip as well. So yes, I made sure everything was properly aligned before voting. Jumping to conclusions and calling us “tharkuris” without knowing the facts 🤦🏾‍♀️ Now tell me who’s the real “tharkuri”?
