An ICICI Bank @ICICIBank employee was forced to choose between her job and her humanity. Her father-in-law was critically ill, admitted to AIIMS Delhi, and had undergone multiple major surgeries. She was the only daughter-in-law and solely responsible for his care. Despite HR being fully aware of the medical emergency, no transfer, flexibility, or temporary relief was offered—only the excuse of “policy.” She was even told to bring her critically ill father-in-law to her work location. With insufficient leave and no humane option left, she was indirectly pushed to resign. She resigned..not by choice, but by coercion. This case raises some serious questions: Why do employers behave as if employees are bonded labor? Which rule says extreme medical emergencies do not deserve compassion? Which rule says parents are only a son’s responsibility and not a daughter-in-law’s? When did corporate policy become more important than human life? I want to ask HR leadership..Do you believe that you and your families are immortal? Do you think pain, illness, and helplessness apply only to junior employees? If you truly believe this, then you are living under a dangerous illusion. This is a sincere but firm request…step out of this illusion and become human. Stop harassing your own employees for ego and promotions. When you die, neither your designation nor your ego will go with you. Fire strips you naked..no power, no post, no pride. एक उम्र के बाद आदमी शान्त होने लगता है, भागता हुआ सा शान्त। भागता हुआ सा शान्त आदमी बहुत खतरनाक होता है। आदमी रूक नहीं सकता, उसे रुकने नहीं दिया जाता। वह रुक जाए तो दुनिया का बोझ मालूम पड़ता है। भागते-भागते वह भीतर से खाली होने लगता है। आस-पास स्नेह ढूंढता है जो दोस्तों से नहीं मिलता, दोस्त उलूल-जुलूल की बातों में फँसा कर खालीपन टाल सकते हैं, खत्म नहीं कर सकते। स्नेह खोजते आदमी से सुंदर कुछ भी नहीं, स्नेह खोजते आदमी से बुरा कुछ भी नहीं। आदमी को, एक समय आने पर अपनी माँ से दूर कर दिया जाता है। उसका कमरा अलग कर दिया जाता है, और उसे आदमियों की श्रेणी में धकेल दिया जाता है जो कठोर मालूम होते हैं। माँ से सिर्फ रसोई तक की बात होने लगती है। माँ के स्नेह की भूख आदमी को सारी उम्र एक खालीपन की और धकलेती है। आदमी उस स्नेह को प्रेमिका में खोजता है और उसके साथ बच्चा होने लगता है। आदमी का बच्चा होना माँ के सिवा किसी को स्वीकार नहीं, प्रेमिका को भी नहीं। प्रेमिका कभी भी माँ नहीं हो सकती, उसकी अपेक्षाएं हैं, माँ की कोई अपेक्षा नहीं होती। आदमी फिर आदमी होने लगता है और ढोने लगता है अपने आदमी होने का बोझ। मैंने किसी आदमी से "कैसे हो?" के उत्तर में "बढ़िया" के अलावा कुछ नहीं सुना। बाकी सब बढ़िया। - संयम शर्मा
