@jayrosen_nyu I agree local is hardest hit — but it’s mostly disruption on the biz side not the content/trust side. My only local paper is a hyperlocal weekly. Folks of all political stripes say it’s valuable. Yet the economics are inevitable. This is why I have hope local has a path back.

7/ Local news is the hardest hit, and local is how people form an initial relationship with journalists and journalism— or don't. TV viewers still develop bonds with local anchors. But TV newsrooms lean heavily on the local newspaper's reporting, and that is where the crisis is.

@baekdal I assume that’s a Covid bump on ages 45+? Super interesting how it barely registered on the younger demos. Broadcast network execs should take note that even locking people in their homes won’t make “the kids” watch more broadcast TV.
